maybe use a bigger size...
Must admit, that with my ys, he was pretty much dry in the night soon after he was dry in teh day, as he suddenly could not stand the wet feeling anymore, even when in nappy...so, maybe you won't need Nappies for much longer altogher...

beansprout · 12/01/2008 16:34

Is he wet before you go to bed? If so, perhaps change his nappy then. Once ds was potty trained and could wee on demand, we used to lift him before we went to bed so his nappy only had to manage for 7-8 hours instead of 12!

MumRum · 12/01/2008 16:49

I had this trouble with my DS but from a much younger age... I used to put a gauze cotton liner in his nappy so it soaked up the wee first, then soaked into his nappy...
I brought a big roll from Boots and cut it to size..
just a thought but do you point his will down?

Will... WILL.. I meant Willy

3andnomore · 12/01/2008 17:05

the willy's move around in the nappies anyway though....reminds me back of the days when I was an inexperienced first time mum to ds#1 and ask the, apparently daft, question if the willy needs to point any certain way, etc. when you put a Nappy on...my mw thought it was a funny question and could not stop sniggering......good that I liked her!

AwayWithTheFaries · 12/01/2008 17:28

lol at 3andnomore! i change him before he goes to bed i know he has bladder control because last night he took his nappy off and after a few mins looked down and started to wee and i said quick dont wee on the floor lets go to the bathroom and you can wee on the toilet and after a bit of coaxing he did a wee on the loo!
i think monday i will bin the nappies as dp will be off for a few days whats the best way to start? pants or bare bum?

OP posts:
3andnomore · 12/01/2008 17:54

well....I would go first for daytime dry and then once that is achieved then take the night nappies away....so, don't bin the nappies yet...

3andnomore · 12/01/2008 17:55

oh, whilst barebum can be eaiser...having pants on when possibly still wetting sort of gives a yuckier feeling...so, might encourage to get dry earlier...

Bluestocking · 12/01/2008 17:59

Apparently, the key to being dry at night is physiological and therefore no amount of "training" will help a child achieve it until they're ready. At a certain stage of development, the body starts to produce a hormone that slows down urine production at night. This happens at different ages for different children and it sounds like your DS is quite a way away from being ready! I wouldn't even try putting him to bed without a nappy until he is dry in the morning pretty consistently. Being dry during the day typically happens much earlier. HTH.

oh no im not going to bin the night time nappy! i have to change his bed nearley every day as it is!

Sorry, misinterpreted your posts. Have you tried cloth nappies? You can stuff them with loads of boosters - they hold far more liquid than a disposable.

AwayWithTheFaries · 13/01/2008 10:22

mumrum do you have a link for the liners? iv looked on the boots website but cant find it!

AwayWith- we are having the same problem with my dd (20months) at the moment-her nappies, pyjamas, sleeping bag and sometimes the sheets too are soaked through when she wakes up. This seems to happen about half the time at the moment. I'm not sure what to do about it except put her in some much larger nappies at night. It's a real pain.

AwayWithTheFaries · 13/01/2008 15:50

CIS i think it depends what nappies you use aswell some leak alot more than others we use tescos own brand and never had this problem till recentley im going to try what mumrum suggested and get some cotton liners

Oh, as for nappies....I love Lidls ones best...never really had a leakage problem with them!

izzywizzyletsgetbusy · 15/01/2008 21:31

My ds was exactly the same, just suddenly started wee-ing right through nappies, so we started taking him to the loo and changine nappy when we went to bed, but he would still be soaking in the morning. We tried the older age group pyjama pants and everything.

He was a bit older than your ds at that point though (about 3.6) and had been trained in the day for about a year - but shown no inclination at night. In the end I thought, if I was changing the bed anyway there was no point paying for nappies too and I might as well try him without. My mum (and many others) told me it was pointless because he was always so wet overnight and had never had a dry night, but, bizarrely, after a couple of weeks of accidents (but no more bed changing than we had been doing) it worked!

I know it won't work for everyone and like I said my ds was older and trained in day, but might be something to bear in mind if you don't find a solution? I honestly think that while we were putting ds in nappies, subconsciously or not, he was going to wee in them, and if we had waited for that magic dry nighttime nappy we would still be waiting now!!!
