Dressing baby

Is it just me who only puts baby in vest and baby grow? If going out properly will dress baby but otherwise I don’t see the point when in the house.

I think that's very normal. Dress them in what is most comfortable for them and practical for you.

JenniferBarkley · 18/05/2022 10:35

Very normal, I didn't put mine in outfits until at least 3 months, probably longer, especially on a day we weren't going anywhere.

Sbena · 18/05/2022 10:49

Nah I totally did that for months. It's just so much more practical.

Now that he's getting bigger I do tend to put him in jammies at night as part of his bedtime routine, but for the first 6 months definitely keep them in clothes if they're clean

I didn't do outfits at all, or anything that looked remotely uncomfortable like jeans or shirts etc.

DS wore either a sleep suit or baby grow with leggings. He did have smart leggings (joggers) and smart baby grows for special occasions 🤣

MulberryBush700 · 18/05/2022 11:12

Sorry, that should say *body suits with leggings

BertieBotts · 18/05/2022 11:17

I'm on DC3 and he gets left in the babygrow even if we need to leave the house! Sometimes we even go out in 2 piece PJs :D

As long as it's clean and weather appropriate, all good.

Bumbers · 18/05/2022 11:19

Didn't put in outfits unless a special occasion until around a year. Ease wins over style for me! They don't care and still look cute, no matter what they are wearing!

Goldfishmountainclimber · 18/05/2022 11:28

Totally normal. As we had more children, the baby generally went out in a babygro as well. It was more important to get the older children to places on time than have the baby dressed up.

EarlGreywithLemon · 18/05/2022 11:36

Just vest and baby grow until 6 months. Planning to do the same shortly with the second baby.

Our daughter is 2.5 and I still don’t put her in jeans. They don’t look comfortable to me!

EarlGreywithLemon · 18/05/2022 11:37

Oh, just to add. I didn’t dress her in anything else going out either! Most of our friends did the same.

Jillyc37 · 18/05/2022 17:12

Thanks everyone. Going out for a walk in the pram I just put a hat and thick blanket over vest and bs y grow

I always wear pyjamas when I'm in the house, so I definitely think it's ok for my DD. They want comfort too

Mommabear20 · 18/05/2022 20:12

With DD and DS they always had proper outfits from day 1 as it just felt normal to me to do that, but I'm definitely steering towards the idea of vests and sleepsuits for this baby! 😂 far easier!

I’ve always got my 3 DC dressed, but it sounds like maybe I’m not the norm? Though most babies I see out and about are dressed. I love putting them in their teeny tiny outfits! And I liked drawing the distinction of daytime vs nighttime from the very earliest days.

DogsAndGin · 18/05/2022 20:17

I think babies look bizarre in miniature outfits like adult clothes! Jeans and dresses on a newborn?! I’m totally here for the adorable little babygrows 😊

DS always had separate clothes for day and night too, despite our lack of "outfits". He had plain white / blue sleepsuits for night time that I out on him after bath, and different ones for the day that I changed him into in the morning.

EarlGreywithLemon · 19/05/2022 20:23

Our daughter also wore different clothes for day vs night. She was in vests and baby grows in the day, and vests and sleeping bags at night.

I don’t actually see baby grows as the equivalent of adult pyjamas- as far as I’m concerned they’re just baby clothes. And I actually don’t wear pyjamas myself unless I’m in bed!

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 20/05/2022 14:32

Wear what is comfortable to you all.

We have cute little outfits and baby grows - I like them both. We wear both in the house and out the house - whatever catches my eye in the morning is what is worn.

Caspianberg · 20/05/2022 15:48

Of course. At 0-6 months mainly wore vest and sleepsuit 24/7. Add cardigan and hat and booties when we went outside.

Jillyc37 · 21/05/2022 20:54

When do people start using baby shampoo and baby bath products?

OP posts:
EarlGreywithLemon · 21/05/2022 22:20

We’ve used Aveeno baby hair and body wash and moisturiser since about a couple of months old. When she was three months old, a paediatrician also recommended Oilatum in our daughter’s bath, as he thought she had dry skin. I hadn’t realised. We did that until she was about six months.

We are yet to use anything scented on her (she’s 2.5 now).

Jillyc37 · 21/05/2022 23:38

Thanks for this.

We have used Weleda baby since a few week, recommended by midwife. Ds had awful peeling skin as a tiny baby every time we bathed, and this helped. Also a baby oil is good to have for after bath if peeling. The weleda nappy cream is amazing also, tiny tube has lasted 2 years so good value, only needed occasionally.

The first few months we tried to limit baths to once per week to stop skin drying out. It gradually improved with time.
