School application from abroad?

Hi,

Can anyone give me advice please? I have a 2 year old and we have the chance to move abroad for a couple of years. We plan to return home in time for him to start primary school in the UK. I understand that applications have to be I a year before. Is there a way to apply from abroad without owning a property in the UK?

Generally the child has to be resident at the address from the January unless you are on a Government/military job abroad

Deadline is mid January of the year in which he would start Reception. Different LA have different rules for those applying from abroad but you need a permanent address in UK to be considered as an "on time" applicant and in most cases resident at it by the deadline.

Owning a property doesn’t make any difference, it is being resident that matters. I think there are some exceptions for diplomats/soldiers.

are the schools where you live over subscribed? We applied from overseas for my daughter’s secondary place, we put our address abroad down & she got offered a place - the school was undersubscribed.

You will have to be resident at the address when you apply and for reception places it's a January deadline, as far as I understand.
