Poo stains!

This is SUCH a mumsy question...

My 14 week old explodes like Mount Vesuvius on a twice daily basis, and has ruined so many clothes. Any tips on getting the yellow stains out?

Also, how come there's more poo outside the nappy than in it? (I don't expect anyone to know the answer to that question!)

Soak in cold water immediately. Then wash - with biological powder if poss. Don't wash on a hot wash, try 40. Don't tumble dry or iron over the stains - any type of heat will set the stains probably forever. Drying stuff outdoors in sunlight can sometimes get rid of poo stains (and food or blood stains incidentally) - obviously you need to wait until the weather is better!

Do you use disposable nappies? - if so and you want to stick with them try different brands. I found Huggies or Tescos marginally better. However a 2 part system of cotton/reusable nappies is so much better at poo containment. If I use disposables (e.g. if on hols or behind on the washing) I often put a wrap (i.e. pants) on OVER the disposable nappy. Ime using disposables didn't save me much washing time - I may not have been washing nappies but I was washing a huge number of dirty vests, babygrows tights etc...Hope this helps

p.s. in answer to your last question - if the nappy gapes even a tiny bit (round the leg or up the back) you have no chance!! Sometimes you hear the squelching sound and you can tell by the force of it that the nappy wouldn't have had a hope of coping.

hang in the sunshine to dry. the sun will bleach it out. it'll work if you hang it inside by a window, doesn't need to be outside

I soak mine in napisan (in cold water) and the stains (mostly) come out. Sunshine is the best remedy but it's in short supply in the UK in January!

Thanks for the tips... Have tried a nappy soak, but in warm water, so I will try cold.

And that's a good tip about the wrap - I might try that. I have a couple that I haven't used for ages - I have two in nappies!
