Run out of formula on holiday 🤯

Hi!

We under estimated how much formula we needed on our holiday in Spain & have almost run out 😔 our little girl is 10 months old & on 3 meals a day… she has 2 bottles a day (morning & night) & has no allergy to cows milk.

We use HIIP organic which we haven’t had luck finding here yet but trying again today.

Does anyone have any advice on what we can give her as a substitute - it’s for 3 days only.

Thanks ☺️ X

I know it’s recommended form 12 months but given her age is close I’d just give her full fat cows milk

sjxoxo · 16/05/2022 06:40

Take the empty tub to a pharmacy and they will be able to tell you an equivalent. I know in France, lots of formula is sold in pharmacies, especially organic or special types. x

Give her any other formula you can get or cows milk?

Any other formula milk

Cantchooseaname · 16/05/2022 06:49

Has she been drinking cows milk (rather than just having it in stuff?) ? If so, I think id give that for 3 days rather than risk a different formula, which may upset her. If she is also eating, she isn’t going to starve before you get home, I’d just go with it and enjoy last few days of holiday!

Whatever the Spanish feed their babies!

BendingSpoons · 16/05/2022 06:56

She is 10m and on food, so I wouldn't worry too much about changing formula. Buy whatever they have, possibly with more luck in a Monday. Hopefully she will take it fine. If she won't, try to add it to cereal etc and make sure she has lots of water to compensate for the fluids.

Go to the shop and buy some formula or as PP said given its 3 days is just use cows milk. I left DS for two nights at 10mo and he just went without milk because I am breastfeeding.

itsgettingweird · 16/05/2022 07:03

You can usually buy HIPP at the bigger supermarkets.

Worthwhile seeing if there's a mercadona or hypertrebol nearby.

If not then any milk from pharmacy. My ds struggled with milks and we found comfort milks and everything available.

We lived there so used the big supermarket but could buy it locally in our small tourist village so I imagine you'll find an alternative easily.

milkysmum · 16/05/2022 07:08

Just get whatever formula they have in the Spanish pharmacy. If she doesn't like it just offer full fat cows milk. She will be absolutely fine.

At her age I don’t think having another brand will be an issue or cows milk eg you could save the formula for bed time and give cows milk in the morning. I think you’re worrying unnecessarily

Thanks everyone - really helpful! ☺️ We go into Palma today so I’m sure we will find something suitable, thankfully she’s a good eater & drinker so not too concerned that she will go starving 😬 appreciate you all taking the time to reply xx

Spain isn't a third world country 😅 Just give the organic formula equivalent that Spanish babies have?

I know it's hard being a mum but holidaying in Spain, I wouldn't have even bothered to bring our own formula.

artificialheart · 16/05/2022 07:38

Have you tried those big supermarkets like carrefour which are generally located on motorways for some reason? I tend to find things there. I think there's a couple in Palma.

MoggyP · 16/05/2022 07:55

3 days of any ordinary milk isn't going to make the slightest difference to her health or nutrition.

(PS: if you're 30ish or older, you were brought up under guidelines that said it was formula to six months, then anything. Do you think you're noticeable unhealthier than those a bit younger than you?)

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 16/05/2022 07:58

Any other “1st” formula is likely to be better for her than using just cow’s milk.

Phos · 16/05/2022 08:19

HiPP is available in Spain. If you're off into Palma try finding one of the big supermarkets (Eroski, Alcampo, El corte Ingles, Hipercor, Opencor, Leclerc, Gadisa, Caprabo, Dinosol, Carrefour, Consum) where there'll be a bigger range.

Failing that, ask at a pharmacy but at 10 months a change in formula is less likely to disagree with her. We had to put our daughter onto a different one in a similar situation when she was 9 months (the tub burst open in the suitcase!) and she was ok.

There's a small eroski under the placa major, and a Muller (German equivalent of boots) on the placa d'espanya, Muller usually do hipp organic.

But any other formula, honestly.

HSKAT · 16/05/2022 11:08

Hope you get sorted!

MJM1608 · 18/05/2022 11:13

Thanks everyone - I managed to find HIIP in the Carrefour in Palma. Appreciate your replies.

xx
