I’ve had sickness and diareha bug for a week which has really ramped up today with going to the toilet every 15 mins and feel like I’m going to faint everytime I stand up. Called 111 and waiting for doctor to call back but I suspect I’m very dehydrated also have muscle cramps and tingles and feel I darnt fall asleep. So worried I’m going to be separated from my baby :( she’s 5 months old and exclusively breastfed. So far she has no signs of illness. I think the breastfeeding is making me really dehydrated as well but want her to have my antibodies incase she gets this

does anyone have experience of this? Will I be able to take baby in if I have to go in?

I'm not sure, but I doubt very much that baby will be able to go with you..hopefully you will be able to be treated as an outpatient..hope you recover quickly x

Hi, nurse here. It very much depends on your hospital and it’s facilities. I have had a patient bring their breastfeeding baby to hospital once before. We sent up a camp bed in her room for her husband to help with the baby because obviously the women was unwell and she just fed the baby, but this was a very new hospital with all single rooms so it didn’t affect any other patients and didn’t take up any staff time looking after the baby. Very much depends on your circumstances and the hospital facilities. So not impossible!

I doubt it. If you are acutely unwell then they will end up caring for you and the baby. I doubt they will have enough staff to do that

If you suddenly stop feeding you run the risk of mastitis which will not help matters!!
You must push to bring your baby on! It's not as easy as giving them a bottle!
Hope you're feeling better soon x

When I was admitted to hospital when DD1 was just over a week old, she came with me. I was in for several nights so I couldn’t be apart from her for that long. I had ‘an infection of unknown origin’ (turned out to be mastitis) and I was in a private room just in case so my DH and DM took it in turns to stay with me to help with DD. I had multiple drips and was still recovering from birth as well.

I wouldn’t have left mine at that age as it’s no good for either of you to suddenly stop bf. Mine also had cmpa.
I think there’s a policy that says a bf mother and baby have to be treated as one person. The trouble is because bf rates are so low in the UK there’s not much understanding of bf amongst medics

Most trusts have their policies on the website.

Depends on the hospital and the ward. My ward (nicu) has lent breast pumps to adult wards before when they can't accommodate a breastfed baby so you should definitely be offered a pump if baby can't stay.
