Sleepy baby after vaccinations

I’m sure this is totally normal but being a classic anxious first time mum I’m just here for some reassurance if that’s okay!

my 2 month old had her first set of jabs this morning at 11am, when we got home she had a feed and some calpol (nurse suggested we give it to her to prevent fever?) and then she went to sleep. She’s been asleep for 4 hours now, usually goes 2-3 hours between feeds (breastfed) during the day. She’s opening her eyes here and there but going straight back to sleep which is very very rare for her. Usually she needs a cuddle to get back to sleep if she does wake up and is still tired.

I’ve left her to sleep because I figured she may need the rest especially if she’s feeling under the weather at all, but do I just continue to leave her until she’s ready to wake up for a feed/ wakes up in her own? The longest stretch she’s ever gone without a feed before is 5 hours and that was overnight just once, so I’m not used to this!

any advice/ reassurance would be appreciated thank you! Also how did your baby react to the 2 month vaccinations?

Totally normal - both mine did this

Both my babies were very sleepy after their vaccinations and had good long sleeps. The nurse with my first had mentioned to me that baby might want a long nap so i remember i napped as well...
I would just enjoy the temporary rest :)

My son is a terrible napper. After his first jabs he slept pretty much for the rest of the day and all night. It really knocked him out.

He was grumpy for a few days, but after that first day he didn't sleep quite so much. It's totally normal!!

Yes totally normal with both mine! They both just crashed but were right as rain after a good sleep.

Also, let her sleep. She'll wake up when she's hungry. If she doesn't I'd say wake her after 6-ish hours - you're supposed to give them more calpol anyway, so dose up and give milk at the same time. Even if it's just a little feed she'll benefit from it.

Very normal. If baby doesn't wake up after 5hours might be a good idea to wake baby to feed just to make sure that baby js fine feeding. As long as baby is eating, no rash, no red jelly poops and no temperature then there's nothing to worry about. If you are not sure though please call the HV or midwife or 111 that's what they are there for.

Thank you everyone for putting my mind at ease! DD woke up for a big feed then went straight back to sleep again, she’s usually so hard to get down so this all feels very strange! Is it selfish to hope I might get a slightly longer stretch than 3 hours of sleep tonight…

Haha welcome to parenthood! My teething 7 month old was up 10 times last night too so I feel your pain. Hope your little one is feeling back to their normal self soon

Honeyhoney2 · 14/05/2022 19:37
