So my daughter is 2 in June . She cannot walk , she can if I hold her hands . She does cruise along the sofa etc , what iv noticed is that shes struggling with balance . She tried to stand up and can hold it for abit then falls . Soon as she tried to take a step she falls over . She's very wobbly .

She walks on her knees !? She's fine in her talking etc . Her feet are flat I think but arnt all babies ? She has a doc app on 20th this month , so just wondering if anyone else child has been like this ? And what could it be

You should contact your HV for advice, generally not walking by 18m is cause for review.

vb123x · 12/05/2022 16:47

@MolliciousIntent

Iv rang them and asked me to get a docs appointment

Your HV should have referred your little girl to be assessed by a physiotherapist to see if she needs any additional support. Ask the Dr if he/she can do this when you see them and hopefully if she doesn’t staff walking in the meantime physio will be able to give you some exercises or provide the relevant support ☺️

Hyper mobility?

Amber2802 · 14/05/2022 17:06

Hey! My little boy didn’t walk until 20 months, didn’t properly crawl until 16. I asked for a referral to physio at his 1 year check. It’s so hard to take this advice (as I still can’t!!) but they will do it in their own time. My son in the end only would walk to a ball! But speak to a health visitor 🙂

Erin19 · 15/05/2022 22:32

Hiya,
My daughter didn't crawl until 12 months, when then was the commando crawl. We did find out at 9 months she has Cerebral palsy. They said she wouldn't probably walk or run.
At 15 months she took her steps. Hope everything goes well. Baby Steps all the way x

My DS was referred for physio when he was around 15months as he only started bum shuffling at 13 months, no crawling or cruising. My HV set up the appointment. The physio couldn't see any mobility issues, but we would still go every 2 months to see her and see if there was any improvements.
By 19 months he was crawling, 21 months he was cruising and using a walker. 2 days after his 2nd birthday he just got up and walked across the room. We were so shocked.
He was still slow to grasp walking/running/jumping though. Whilst his friends at nursery were running he would toddle along. When he tried to run it looked like a march. He eventually got the hang of running around 4. He's still slower than a lot of his friends, but it doesn't stop him.

MIL says my husband didn't walk until he was 2. She took him to the doctors but didn't like the tests they were doing so she brought him home. He eventually did walk on his own. He's totally fine with no health conditions.

By all means have your baby checked out. Just don't stress about anything until there's something to stress about - maybe she just needs more time!

vb123x · 16/05/2022 13:57

Thankyou for replies . I don't think there's anything underlying to be Honest . If anything I'm thinking muscle tone maybe . She hit all her other milestones perfectly . So maybe she just needs more time

My eldest didn't walk until almost 2. We managed to get a referral from 18 months to community paeds who could then refer on to NHS physio. We booked a private physio to assess in the meantime who gave us some brilliant advice, especially with buying him some boots to support his ankles which were great.
He had a potential hyper mobility issue but it was put on a "watch and see". He walked independently just before he turned 2. As soon as he was walking I enrolled him in some classes to improve muscle strength etc and do lots of yoga with him at home.
He's just over 4 now and you wouldn't know any different now, apart from getting aching legs and ankles in the evening at the moment, but I think some is growing pains.

My D.C. didn’t walk until they were nearly 2, and when they did, had an odd gait. They were referred to physio but by the time the appointment came around (just before they turned three), they had completely caught up and you’d never have known they were a late walker. However, I’d really urge you to push for a paeds referral just in case.

The reason you contact HV at 18m+ is so that the child gets reviewed by 2-2.5yo. If child is confidently walking by then, the review may well be cancelled. No harm done in getting some momentum in system, though.

I know some children who didn't walk until nearly2yo & they were not just fine, but athletic ultimately. So I'd say "no cause to worry" but still get your child in the system. Your HV can probably organise this over the phone.

vb123x · 16/05/2022 16:35

@lljkk iv contacted health visitor , she just advised me to book a appointment with a gp , fingers crossed she's starts walking for her birthday

Thought I'd do a little update ! She's actually taken her first steps today , she just stood up and walked ! Bit wobbly but she's definitely going to be walking soon

Figmentofimagination · 17/05/2022 23:55

That's brilliant OP! She'll be running around in no time.

MrsEricBana · 17/05/2022 23:58

Ah, that's wonderful! The doc will in all likelihood check her hips. If any issue there it can be sorted. Hope the appointment goes well.

Threetulips · 18/05/2022 00:00

They seem to just know! Book an appointment and they prove you’re a liar!

DD was a late walker pure laziness! Got her brother to fetch and carry.
