My daughter turned 1 at the end of April, and I'm now thinking about starting the process of weaning her off bottles. Currently, she eats 3 meals a day plus a couple of snacks, and has a 6oz bottle at bedtime, typically wakes around 2am for a 6oz bottle, and another in the morning.
She was exclusively breastfed until around 6 months, them combination fed, then self weaned to bottles of formula around 9 months. She has coped really well with these changes, and changing from formula to cow's milk has not been an issue, but if I try and giver her milk in any other cup/sippy cup/straw cup (which she will happily drink water from throughout the day), I'm met with protest.
At this point I think the night time bottles are more for comfort/part of her routine, I'm confident that she's receiving enough calories from solids, and she's 91st centile for weight so no issues there 😂(she's also not bothered in the slightest about crawling/standing/walking but that's another issue entirely...)
I just don't know where to start, I feel cruel to just stop cold turkey, should I gradually reduce the amount of milk in the bottles until eventually replacing with water? I have ordered learner spouts for her bottles to replace the teats so will give that a try.
Secondly, dummies... she takes a dummy to sleep, nap or when she is tired and agitated. This is something else I need to work on weaning her off, but one thing at a time, I think I'll focus on the bottles in the first instance!
Please help! I'm a first time Mum and completely winging it 😂
