Dressing baby for warmer weather

Hi all! FTM here. My DS is 8 weeks old and I'm planning to head out to meet up with some friends tomorrow. The weather is forecast for 22C and I'm not sure what to dress him in.

I've already stuffed three different spare outfits (baby grow, shorts and t-shirt, different long sleeved shirt in case of spit up, thinner bottoms) in the nappy bag and have laid out a long sleeved shirt, black bottoms and a sleeveless bodysuit to wear. I'm worried this will be too warm. I don't know if we'll be sitting indoors or outdoors though. I've also put sun lotion and a sun hat in the bag just in case.

What would you dress your DC in for 22C?

I should add that he's had a stuffy nose for a bit, which makes me even more confused about what to dress him in. He's unlikely to catch another cold with 22C, but I worry.

My little is 11 weeks and it's a good question!
Today I just had her in a long sleeved vest in a sling and her bare legs covered with a muslin. Oh and a hat.

She sleeps in the sling not buggy but is effected by my body heat so kept to the shade and I even stopped to take her out for a couple of minutes today.

I thought they couldn't have sun cream until 6 months?

I was absolutely paranoid about overheating and if anything probably underdressed mine. She wasn't a particularly cold baby though, still doesn't seem to feel the cold much at nearly 2.

If youve got some thin bottoms and a long sleeve cotton top I'd probably go with that, take a little cardi plus a blanket with you. You can always add layers, he will let you know if he's cold. The shorts and t shirt would be fine too, I'm just thinking to minimise the need for suncream, which I'm not sure you're supposed to use on newborns? Sun hat or hood up on pram and try to keep him in the shade.

I think having a few thin layers is best so you can always remove if you are somewhere particularly warm.
My 18 weeks old is a warm baby and easily gets hot and sweaty, especially in the car seat, so I ensure I can strip off layers if needed.
I always think it's safer to be a little chilly than over-heated (and it's easy to add a blanket if they do get cold).

Thanks!

They're not really supposed to, but there are some baby-safe formulas for minimal application if there's absolutely no shade or other sun protection available. I just like to be over-prepared I guess- definitely don't want to use it yet. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I agree with PP who said layers, I'd probably go with a light onesie (long sleeves and legs to avoid sun exposure) and no vest with an extra light top on top that you can put on or off as needed. The baby sunscreens are for over 6 months I'm fairly sure, I searched for one suitable for newborns before and found none. It's best to keep direct sunlight to the absolute minimum - in the pram with the hood up is a great solution for shade.

I got a fan on Amazon before I took my son on holidays that attaches to the pram and works really well for keeping him cool in hot weather! Probably not needed for 22° but might be handy to have for the summer months.

Babies might need extra feeds in hot weather to stay hydrated too but I'm sure at 8 weeks you're feeding very often anyway!
