Employing babysitter from nursery

Has anyone ever employed a babysitter from their child's nursery? We are looking for a babysitter and would love it to be someone our child knows already. The nursery company says it doesn't endorse their staff to babysit but they are free to do so in their own time as long as nursery isn't involved.

I tried to do it as nursery opens at 8am and I start work at 8am🤦🏻‍♀️It made perfect sense as they will already know your child.

Yes loads of people do this. Good idea.

Yep, we've done this, it's worked very well. We just approached a couple of the girls privately. In ours, some do and some don't do babysitting.

Yep some of ours do it if you approach them privately. They charge the same hourly rate as they get from the nursery though so it tends to be more expensive than the average local babysitter.

Yep just approach and ask.

It's extra money for them. My friend was a nursery worker and made a mint at the weekend.

Yes, I use one of the staff from my DDs room at nursery. they both know each other, which I think is beneficial, rather than someone who she’s never met. She understands DDs routine and DD is comfortable around her.
I asked the room leader if anyone did babysitting, and the lady approached me with her contact details.

Check your nursery contract/t&c's as you might have to pay a charge to do so.

We did it several times when DC were small -- it can be a good solution for everyone.

Yes we do this - works really well. Nursery are aware & happy with it.

We used two of the nursery staff as babysitters for years - started from when DT’s started at the nursery when they were six months old.

Perfect being able to go out regularly with excellent babysitters.

I'm considering approaching a member of staff from the nursery but not sure what the going rate is or whether we would just ask her what she charges. How have others approached this?

From the women I know that work in nurseries and do babysitting, plus the one we use - they will have their own prices. Ours is the same as their hourly rate at the nursery

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/05/2022 21:15

Our eldest occasionally did this. Was as highly qualified as it was possible to be so the children were in extremely good hands.

very much depends on the staff you’re considering (as in most situations)

Maray1967 · 08/05/2022 14:00

We did this - it’s ideal as your child knows them. I paid £10 per hour years ago though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/05/2022 16:15

Many do this

ask them their rate and take a few numbers so if one is busy you have other options

nice to have someone they know
