Surely 4 is the most annoying age

He's relentlessly talking, wants constant stimulation, back chats and just generally doesn't sit still.

I literally cannot wait until school in September

Ha! My DS is the same. It's the endless attempts at negotiation that are killing me - you need to wear pants and you need to put them on now, not after spider man. Stop negotiating with me.

Omg yes to this! It's constant bargaining with DD to do things, but she tries to bargain back. She's 5 soon, hoping it'll stop like the flick of a switch. DD1 was never like this.

DemBonesDemBones · 04/05/2022 17:14

Yes. Terrible twos, fucking awful fours Grin

Throwawaytoday · 04/05/2022 17:24

Therealpink · 04/05/2022 15:42

Wait till you meet 5!

Can attest that this is true.

5 is like 4 but with malintent.

I love that DD is so chatty, observant, interesting and funny - but OH MY GOD can that child nag... she nags my ear off it drives me bananas.

Based on my husband, I think 42 is the most annoying age.

tuliplover · 04/05/2022 18:00

@SoggyPaper 😂😂

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 04/05/2022 18:02

I’d argue every age is fucking annoying

LoveSpringDaffs · 04/05/2022 18:06

I'm sorry your ears hurt!!

ovetall 4 is actually a lovely age, but some of the days are long!! (And loud)

TRY to appreciate the cuteness!!

and remember, at least at 4 they got to bed at a decent time!

Wincher · 04/05/2022 18:11

So far, I agree that 4 was the absolute worst. They knew how to press my buttons and seemed to just see how far they could push it. Repeatedly. And not as easily distracted as toddlers. However mine are only 11 and 8 now so I appreciate there could be worse to come!

springtimeishereagain · 04/05/2022 18:34

12 was worst for dd. She's 18 now, and a delight. But I do miss her younger days... when she relied on me and thought I was brilliant at everything... But then I think of our relationship now and I smile. She's ace.

Ds? 14 was a mixed bag.

6-9 is relatively pleasant. Then ✨hormones and attitude✨

Completely agree!

JollyWilloughby · 04/05/2022 19:48

Both my sons at age 4 were an absolute delight. My daughter however could have gave Chucky a run for her money at that age.

@PeskyRooks I came here to say exactly the same. 4 is bliss compared to 14.....

DemBonesDemBones · 04/05/2022 22:39

@Babdoc I'm a Christian and I bloody love a swear 🤷‍♀️

Aren’t you a delight!

anywhichwaytoo · 04/05/2022 22:48

Aww. I love my 4yo! She's a total delight to be around. No tantrums really at this age anymore.

meow1989 · 04/05/2022 23:06

Ds is 4 in a couple of months and I found 0-18 months delightful, 18 months - about 3 and a half challenging. 3 and a half plus, generally golden.

Though friends whose children didn't seem to go through the tantrums and terrors of 2 like mine seem to be getting it now with their children.

Northernsoullover · 04/05/2022 23:07

Babdoc · 04/05/2022 15:38

That is so sad! At his age he will be absorbing new information and vocabulary like a sponge, be craving input and stimulation, and it’s your chance to lay solid foundations for his intellectual, spiritual and moral education.
I loved that stage with my DDs - we talked non stop, played educational games, had outings, sang songs together, did experiments, began learning musical instruments and foreign languages - it’s so much more interesting than just a baby sleeping in a cot or needing a nappy change.
Try to embrace it, OP, and enjoy it. You will miss this when he’s a cool teen who wouldn’t be seen dead talking to his mother!

Big whoop 🙄

Give the poor mum a break and let her rant online if she feels stressed out. Getting overwhelmed is an absolute normal part of motherhood.

OP you're doing great, take it day by day 🤣 children can be extremely annoying.

AnnaSW1 · 05/05/2022 07:44

I love 4!

shivawn · 05/05/2022 07:58

Oh no I don't want to hear this 😭, I've been looking forward to age 4 as the age when everything gets easier and we can start taking good holidays again!

@Babdoc It was pretty clear that OP was just looking to vent when you came in with your condescending reply.

roadsweep · 05/05/2022 08:01

He's the sweetest most gorgeous boy, I'm just burned out and tired after being a SAHM for 4 years and recently having had a 3 month old!

I just find the constant child-entertaining draining and the fact that there's no distinction between my weekdays and weekends, home and work.

I feel bad for him that he needs more stimulation and attention but there's only one of me!

Plus the constant jumping and accidentally hurting me is annoying for anyone? Surely!

I love and hate 4- my 4yr old is in school which gives some break- but a lot of demanding behaviour (maybe easier if older siblings), loads of energy- I love seeing her learn though and her amazement at everything.

when my nephew was 11 it was hard to find the joy- preteens are way worst imo.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/05/2022 08:07

9yo girl.

Talks relentlessly into a void - nothing specific directed at anyone
Becomes hyper focused on topics and wants to learn about and talk about them endlessly (eg the Berlin Wall)
Wriggles 99% of her awake time
Friendship gossips
Eats like a horse
Remembers everything you mentioned then asks when and why not right now
Sees those crappy five minute crafts on YouTube where they hot glue gun an empty coke bottle to a tyre and wants to do it right now at 8am

Dear God.
