What would you give as party bag toys or favours for a one year old birthday party?

we are thinking paper bag or no bag and one or two small

a book
wooden animals
teether
light up ball
sensory ball
jigsaw

want to give something nice but not loads of tat either

maybe just a book and cake?

what about food / sweets / snacks?

approx 6 babies ages around 1 but numbers not yet confirmed

ideas most welcome

Book only at that age

katnyps · 03/05/2022 21:15

I would not give party bags for 1 year olds but maybe I'm in the minority?

What kind of cake? Some parents may be very fussy still about what their kids eat at that age.

It's a very nice thought though - your list sounds fine.

SMBC2020 · 03/05/2022 21:16

I did a paper bag with a book (the 10 for £10 ones from the works) and maybe a balloon.

I wouldn’t go nuts, it’s expensive and puts pressure on other tired parents to follow suit! But if you want to do a little party favour, all babies love bubbles

Musomama1 · 03/05/2022 21:20

That's so sweet, sure the parents will love it but yes, don't go nuts. At 3 my DS totally not bothered by party bags! I'm doing one and packing only food, kids have enough stuff is my cheap-ass reasoning 🤣🤣

MissMaple82 · 03/05/2022 21:23

Nothing!

CC12x · 03/05/2022 21:24

Bubbles! My 17 month and 4 month old are obsessed xx

SoftSheen · 03/05/2022 21:24

Pot of bubble mixture would be perfect. No need to go overboard at that age!

JoeGoldberg · 03/05/2022 21:25

Nothing at that age

User280905 · 03/05/2022 21:27

Nothing. Just a piece of cake. We've been to parties where the party bag looked more expensive than our gift and that was mortifying. Not everyone can afford big presents.

But I agree with others, bubbles are a good choice if you feel you have to.

Choccomonster · 03/05/2022 21:28

I thought the parents would eat the cake as it just seems like something you are supposed to put in party bags. Probably better they eat it at the party though!

My little one loves bubbles and they are cheap. Would be nice to put something with it.

didn't think of balloons. Are they ok for a one year old?

For snacks I thought a baby friendly snack biscuit but it is tough with diets and allergies so may be best to leave those out

Nothing. You have years of party bags ahead of you so avoid them while you still can!

AliceW89 · 03/05/2022 21:34

Wooden animal is a cute idea if you are set on doing bags. That and a bottle of bubble mixture is plenty. If your budget stretches to it, the Lanka Kade ones are nice and about £2-£3 per animal.

AliceW89 · 03/05/2022 21:35

Don’t bother with a snack. That’s the sort of thing that will get chucked after getting squashed in someone’s changing bag for a month after the party.

CraazyCatLady · 03/05/2022 22:30

For my little girls 2nd birthday, there were a couple of one year olds. They got a Bing paper bag, as that is what my daughter loved at the time, with a piece of cake, some bubbles, a little bath toy and some bear paws. They're healthy, fruity sweet type things.

The parents commented on how nice the party bags were.

Emmelina · 03/05/2022 22:32

Bubbles and a bath duck, perhaps?

DropYourSword · 03/05/2022 22:40

I wouldn't bother for 1 year olds.

maryberryslayers · 03/05/2022 23:00

I did a light up bouncy ball, a colourful scarf, a little wooden rattle and an Ella's kitchen baby biscuit in a little colourful paper bag with each babies name on. All off Amazon and inexpensive.

RampantIvy · 03/05/2022 23:04

Nothing

Pixiedust1234 · 03/05/2022 23:07

Nothing. My children never had parties until they went to school and actually had their own friends. We did have family parties but I refused to do party bags for grandparents and aunts etc.

INeedNewShoes · 03/05/2022 23:08

When you’re having to buy 15 party bags for your DC’s friends because school age children actually expect/want them you’ll look back and wonder why on earth you started this so many years before you had to!

Furrybutts · 03/05/2022 23:08

Character flannel
Toothbrush
Pair of character socks
Key ring with child's name on to attach to nappy bag.
Pack of chunky crayons

I absolutely loved making party bags when my children were small. I would collect things all year round to go in them.

Ellie5341 · 03/05/2022 23:24

When mine was/ my friends little ones were 1 we put in the party bags;

Bath toy boat/ duck
healthy ish snacks; baby wafers etc
Bubbles
Book
Cup
Cuddly toy
Musical instruments
Ball
Hat

PritiPatelsMaker · 04/05/2022 06:43

Book only. It would be lovely and I know I would have appreciated getting a book for mine at that age Smile

Choccomonster · 06/05/2022 21:29

I've got some nice bubbles

looking for a wooden item

we have some time to maybe find a bargain

think I will leave the snack
