Realistic phone time limits for 11/12 year old

Would appreciate other parents' opinions on this. My DS is almost 12 and he's on his phone a lot! I don't know if it's too much. He uses it to Watsapp his friends, watches YouTube shorts and plays games. Weekdays he is on his phone too and from school on the bus (30 mins each way) and sometimes after he finishes his homework at night-maybe 1 hour. Weekends he plays out with his friends but if it's raining he'll be on his phone a lot more. Out playing Xbox games with friends. He often walks about on his phone watching YouTube videos and it drives me crazy! He doesn't read much now he has a phone which I find a bit sad.
Do you have limits on phone time? Would be good for some reference here.

If homework / after school clubs are done DTs can be on it until 20.00 on weekdays. In the mornings before school if they are totally ready, bags packed etc they get about 20 minutes. They're 11. At the weekend I don't really restrict as long as anything that needs to be done has been done and they haven't been sitting on them all day. I do limit Tik Tok though as they would just watch it for 24 hours straight.

I'm strict by all accounts, their phones are pinging until I go to bed.

No real daytime limits here. I've set DD's phone to automatically switch off from 8:30pm-7am (she listens to music whilst she's getting ready for school, weekends she doesn't usually wake up until 8/9/10(sometimes!). She's 12 next month. Oh and her phone stays downstairs, not that she could do anything on it when it's switched off.

She has whatsapp and watching YouTube but isn't allowed TikTok (not that I'm naive enough to think she doesn't watch it on the browser/YouTube), Instagram, Snapchat or any other social media. She likes Pinterest actually (does that count as social media?).

Thanks. Sounds similar to our house then. He isn't allowed the phone in bed at night though he has starting asking if he can get it when turns 12. Aaaggh! He isn't on TikTok but YouTube shorts are just exactly the same as TikTok I think. He would watch those videos 24 hours a day if I let him which worries me. I watch TikTok and find it really addictive too so I don't know how a young child moderates it.

It's so bad for you to have your phone at night. It's something I'm going to be really strict on for as long as possible.
