DS almost 5 struggles to hop on one leg

DS almost 5 struggles to hop on one leg any more than 4 steps without leaning further and further forward and then having to put his other foot down.
He has never been delayed with any development and crawled and walked at an early age. He just isn't overly 'athletic' and prefers to walk and run instead of hopping skipping etc 😂
PE teacher alerted me to the fact he couldn't hop from one end of the playground to the other so wants me to practise at home as apparently it's something they have to be able to do by the end of Year Reception 🤦🏻‍♀️
Is it just a practise thing? As it's not something I've ever done with him?
Or is it something to be worried about? 😟

I remember DSS had a bit of an issue with this around the same age. We would try and incorporate it into our day in a fun way. Oh mummy can hop to the lamp post can you. Or hopping races. Like anything else it's just about practice.
But like you I'm of the theory that all kids have their strengths and weaknesses and DSS is not the most coordinated child, then neither am I. I wouldt worry too much about it

Blimey, my daughter wouldn't have passed this test (and she grew up into a normal, healthy adult). And this wasn't even a test in those days.

If he can't do it, all it indicates is that his co-ordination is not what Random Test would expect it to be. If he can ride a bike, kick a ball, write his name and otherwise has no other motor-skill-co-ordination problems I'd not worry too much.

If the school push, you could try asking them what the purpose of the test is, and what do they plan to do with him if he can't master the skill?

My son (now 24) had an issue with jumping on the spot and still couldn't master it at 4/5 years old.

He's now an accomplished all round sportsman and played first team Lacrosse for his Uni, but can pretty much turn his hand to any sport.

I really wouldn't let it worry you, they all develop at different rates and unless you think there is an underlying issue I would just continue to gently encourage him.
