Sick 17 month old refusing food

My poor little one has picked up a bug from nursery, he's had a temperature since yesterday but he is refusing food - this is a big issue with him anyway and his weight is really low due to food refusal. As he is currently unwell, I'm not sure what to do, he is accepting milk so do I just give him as much as he wants in lieu of food? Normally I stick to milk when he wakes up and bedtime only but as he is ill, should I just offer him whatever he will have?

Thanks in advance

When my little one had a sickness and diarrhoea bug and was refusing food I spoke to the GP and she said they can actually go a surprising amount of time without eating. The main thing is that they drink plenty of fluids so it's great he's drinking milk. She also said you can give them diluted squash so they get a bit of sugar that way. You can also give children's dioralyte to replace the salts they're losing. I think just let him have as much milk as he'll drink so he's not dehydrated and there's lots of goodness in whole milk too so try not to worry to much although I now how hard that is!

*too

Thank you so much for your reply @MrsSamRowley . I will try giving him some squash later. I have managed to get him to eat a couple of pieces of strawberry but will keep offering him milk so he is at least having something nutritious. I really dont want him losing anymore weight.

I agree let him have as much milk as he'd like and try add some juice in. My LG just had her tonsils out and refused food a couple of days, I caved and let her eat literally whatever to keep her going so she ate some small bars of chocolate some days or porridge with sugar added. She doesn't drink milk so GP said to literally give her whatever she could eat as long as she was eating and drinking

Thank you both. After reading your post @HiKelsey I offered him some crisps as they are his favourite but I dont usually give him them due to salt content (he likes normal crisps not baby ones) he managed a handful of Quavers and another strawberry. I will keep offering him milk tomorrow if he refuses food.
Thank you both for your advice, hopefully he is feeling better soon.

Ice lollies are are good way of getting fluids into them.
