Sterilising baby toys

Hi!

Just wondering if anyone knows of any brands that are produce safe sterilising wipes? My little girl is 6 months old and always has something in her mouth so it's a pain keeping everything elan. I've heard of clotox wipes but not sure if they're safe with everything going in her mouth?

Or if anyone can let me know sterilising baby toys that would be ideal.

Boots sell milton wipes they should be what are looking for

There is absolutely no need to clean toys. Your child needs to develop a good immune system :-)

mynameiscalypso · 27/04/2022 21:23

I might be a very lax parent but I just didn't bother. Germs are good for their immune system.

I think you need to unclench. We sterilise toys between child patients but shes just chewing her own toys..

Somertime · 27/04/2022 21:28

I used to panic about this until i found my then 7 month old DS licking his pram wheel. I figured if he could survive that he was probably going to be ok with slightly grubby toys. At nursery they all lick and share toys with each other. Grim but helps build an immune system.

ofwarren · 27/04/2022 21:29

My child is immunocompromised and I never did this!

Musomama1 · 27/04/2022 21:35

Oh no, don't bother, baby needs to build her immune system.

LO licked buggy wheels too haha nutters! I only sterilised dummies once a day in the dishwasher, then stopped doing even that, I remember my friend used to bring out a massive tub of sterlised dummies. If we dropped a dummy I'd just suck it then plug it back in.

My DH was tiresomely paranoid though and cried when I fed LO with a spoon which had been compromised by touching the bare surface of our side table. I was lost for words, luckily I've been proved right!

At 6 months your baby is, or alarmingly soon will be, self-propelling and so will be licking more crud than you ever want to think about.

Clean grubby toys in hot soapy water.

Sterilisation not required, other than bottle teats

Tee20x · 27/04/2022 21:50

I keep Milton wipes in the changing bag if we go out but don't use them on toys. Like others have said baby will soon be crawling if not already and will be putting hands in mouth, licking buggy wheels (why do they do this) and so much more, toys will be the least of your concern.

MinimogMum · 27/04/2022 22:08

You could dissolve half a Milton tablet into a squirt bottle of water, give them a quick spritz and let them dry. I do this every now and again but you really don't need to do it often.

Once my son learnt to roll, his favourite activity was sucking our dog's tail. Sterilising toys seemed pretty pointless!

SisyphusDad · 27/04/2022 22:22

PFB?

Babdoc · 27/04/2022 22:23

I caught my DD crawling into the cat litter tray to play, and later biting an earthworm in half in the garden, OP. She survived to healthy adulthood, and I never sterilised her toys once!

SickAndTiredAgain · 27/04/2022 22:26

I also didn't bother sterilising toys. Didn't really occur to me.

Somuchgoo · 28/04/2022 00:23

Really no need to sterilise toys!
They'll soon have far worse in their mouths.

PFB?

Aquamarine1029 · 28/04/2022 00:27

You think your child injesting chemical residue is somehow better than normal, actually helpful, germs? Have you considered what the consequences are if your daughter's body doesn't have the opportunity to build up it's immune system?

user12343214 · 28/04/2022 00:30

Nuby do ones that smell and taste like yoghurt.
I used to get them in mothercare but boots seems to be the only other place to get them.Far nicer than the Milton ones as they smell vile!
Always kept a packet in my changing bag for when teething toys landed on the ground!

😂

The good old pram wheel or shoe lick 😂 the moment you relative your baby is no longer sterilized!

bloodywhitecat · 28/04/2022 00:35

I only sterilize bottles that they have milk in, toys get washed if they need it but never sterlised.

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 28/04/2022 00:36

You really don’t need to do this! Hot soapy water if anything is dirty. Or Dettol wipes would be fine, as they can be used on high chair trays. Just let the toys dry before giving them back to her.

Discovereads · 28/04/2022 00:43

Well, we have dust allergies in our house so while I did not sterilise toys, they were all wiped clean weekly with a soft cloth and all purpose environmentally friendly non toxic spray cleaner.

twoandcooplease · 28/04/2022 01:53

At 6wks I freaked (inside) when a lady put ds dropped dummy in the shop back in his mouth
He's 7mth now and just fell asleep sucking my hair bobble.

Bornsloppy · 28/04/2022 07:34

I'm with PP - I wouldn't bother. Once they move they're up to all sorts of disgusting stuff. My 1yo always finds the snottiest toddler at stay & play and steals their water bottle. 🤢

OliviaL9530 · 28/04/2022 15:53

Thanks everyone! Licking the pram wheels! So funny hahaha
