Dressing 3YO DS

Not sure if this is the correct thread for this however I'm wanting to try dressing my little boy a bit trendier, he's 3 and will be 4 in august so in between not looking like he should be wearing babyish clothes but I want him to look nice when we're out and he always seems to look a bit of mess in one way or another.

The clothes he has aren't tatty or worn and we generally go to Next, M&S, Clarks for shoes and on the occasion Tesco or George for clothes but I refuse to put him in black, grey or other monochrome clothes (including dressing him in jeans for nursery) - I just can't stand it and they seem so restrictive.

Any shops that do cute and trendy clothes?

Im not the best for fashions or dressing but I'm trying my hardest.

TIA

Mango, Zara, H&M

88emmy · 27/04/2022 10:28

Definitely Zara / H&M

I also find that shoes complete the look 😂

So we have white/ black & neutral coloured trainers 😬

Not sure if Clarks shoes are trendy 🙈 Can never find anything nice in there

Also... black leggings.. I hate jeans for nursery too 😅 so found that black leggings do the job. Look great & are comfortable!

I get the kids their long sleeved tops and t shirts from Boden- the designs are lovely and interesting. Wait for a 20% code though!

For shoes DS has navy adidas gazelles which go with absolutely everything- I’m about to buy him his third pair in a row.

Oh, OP. What a lovely mum. I must be hormonal because this has made me cry.

I always think little boys look nice in leggings, a t-shirt/long sleeve and a denim shirt. If you look at LoveBeeBaby on Instagram, her boys always look smart (but I don't rate the leggings, pain in the arse to have something you can only handwash with Ecover 🤨).

Avoid anything with Pirates, Monkeys, Skulls, etc on the front. I'm with you on the grey / black thing for little boys. Just looks awful.

Mine wore a lot of stripey t-shirts, plain bright hoodies and very soft jeans from Gap Kids, Zara and H&M.

Thank you so much for all of your replies they're brilliant.
I'll definitely have a look at the likes of Zara and H&M, agreed with Clarks that we can't find anything in there that's not obscene colours, leather or just not practical.

We did get converse high tops for him to wear with denim shorts or soft shorts for nursery though but they won't stay white for long 🤣 I'm scouting vinted for some food quality bits and have my eye on a few things.

It's so difficult as girls are so much easier (and loads more choice) to dress and the various things you can get are usually cheaper than buying boys clothes and I've said this since DS was born that boys clothes are a mix of grey, black or brown and my DS suits neither so colourful things are the way to go.

I'll keep an eye out for Boden, we have a huge John Lewis in our local city centre too so I can browse there too.

Hi lovely,

Your reply honestly made my morning! I feel like a really crappy person as my own hang ups over not being "stylish mum" seem to be affecting how my little one dresses - silly I know and as a 3yo he doesn't know much different!

But I just want him to look nice and well dressed, I'll have a look on Instagram too, I always like it for inspiration but at the same time tread carefully that it isn't always as it seems!

Thank you again ❤️

Next used to do some brightly colours hoodies that were great.

Mammy55 · 27/04/2022 11:24

i don’t like jeans for my sons either, next do really nice joggers that look smart and are comfortable. I also always buy a couple of designer ish t shirts, just plain ones. I really like gant, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger and converse. Just for a simple t shirt to go with something, they tend to be about £22 each. Which I don’t know if that’s far to much for a 3yr old but that’s what we do for ours. And then converse, vans and gazelles for trainers. I love H&M shorts you can get them for under a fiver and always look great with a nice t shirt and a pair of trainers x

SweetNcrunchy · 27/04/2022 11:26

TBH I am an eBay queen and had bugger all money when my kids were small. So i bought a lot of their clothes second hand off eBay, nice little Calvin Klein jumpers, Boden jackets, Petit Bateau tops, Oshkosh dungarees etc. They always wore good branded trainers second hand as well.

Now they are late teens i still buy some of their clothes off eBay, Ralph Lauren polos, DSquared jeans, True Religion hoodies, Nike Jordans and TNs on their feet etc. They buy their own on Depop as well as its become a habit for them too!

If you are an eBayer, do look at buying "Bundles" of good quality semi-designer stuff too.

He has a few pairs of the skinny joggers as he's so tall (about 115cm) but so skinny so it's the only thing that fits, luckily in shorts you can't tell when they're a bit short or he's growing again.

I love Next but find their quality hit and miss, he has loads of the polos that are good for the spring / summer.

I don't mind jeans but only for an occasion, or nice meal out, other than that it's a no from me 😂 denim shorts are so versatile though!

Managed to get a Levi's t shirt for £2 brand new on Vinted so I'm very chuffed!

I'm definitely gonna have a browse of eBay, we're putting most of our money away for a deposit but for my DS I don't mind getting nice things that will last and not wash out of colour in a couple washes.

I'm on student nurse wage so not a lot for big brands but I do love a good bargain of designer bits on eBay and find they last so well
