Chickenpox

Daft question I know but never dealt with chickenpox before,

DD has them bless her, what is meant by scabbed over? Like when the blisters have popped and they go crusty?

Yes, no more blisters with liquid in, just scabs (which will then eventually fall off). I was a bit confused by it too though as DS had a mild case and had a lot of red pimples which didn't get blistery and so didn't scab over either. So I guess those are fine.

Good luck, DD now has it and she is so poorly she literally has thousands of spots everywhere, awful!

Same here, her head in her hair is absolutely covered, all her body is i feel so sorry for her - just waiting for 1 year old DD to come out in them now 😢

How old is your DD? Same here, her scalp is the worst but I swear more spots are appearing every minute, it's making its way down to her face and neck folds as well now.

She came out in spots exactly 2 weeks after DS. I feel a bit robbed as I kept seeing breastfeeding would help but she is way, way worse than DS (4). I don't think BF is helping at all. She has a bad temperature too.

Hope your DD feels better soon. DS spots were all crusted over within 4 or 5 days, so there's hope!

She's 4.
Yeah she woke at 3 with a temp where she was shivering too, but calpol brought it down. and she had so much more spots, all her face, her neck and her groin area is the worse, her arms and legs have some too but not as bad, she started with her first spot Thursday so I'm hoping it ends soon.

I really hope baby DD isn't as bad as DD4, it will be horrendous, ahh I'm still breastfeeding too so I was hoping it might stave them off 😂 praying for a miracle

My DD started last Sunday with them and luckily wasn't poorly with it. She still has spots but they have calmed down loads.

Timeforanamechang · 24/04/2022 11:11

First spot on Thursday here too. Sounds very similar (lots in her groin, barely any on arms and legs) so it's reassuring that it's probably just following its normal course.

I guess it's a bit easier with the babies though as they haven't worked out that scratching can help itching, so hopefully she won't end up with any scars. She's struggling to sleep but otherwise quite cheerful.

How old is your DD, I say baby for mine but she's 13 month, and she suffers from ezcema so she does itch 😢 hopefully it will be over soon for both of us

Just FYI, it typically takes two weeks between infection and symptoms so unless both your children caught it at the same time there is likely to be a two week gap - just when you think you have got away with it!

Timeforanamechang · 24/04/2022 12:16

She is 7 months. Yes I guess at 13 months she might be wiser and get more irritated. But equally she may also have it really mild like my DS. Fingers crossed for you!

I'm also worried as a lot of people say that when they catch it before 1 they can catch it again. Really hoping all this isn't for nothing and she'll at least have immunity forever now!

Oh i know, a few in DDs class have just started with it so looks like she was infected just before the easter break, hoping I get a few days break in between 🤞🤞

Oh I'll have to get some of this, when I got in from work sunday she had about 3 times more than when I left, I'll admit I've had a little cry today its so hard. Her face was covered yesterday I did a head and shoulders bath and she woke up with over half of her face spots gone!

There's just 1 blister left on her face, about 4 on her hands and a couple on her feet but she's started really itching again today so I'm hoping this is a sign they are ready to burst 🤞🤞they've been blistered since Sunday night so can't be much longer now

Poor little thing. Some children get it so bad. Her friend and her brother did. Face and body covered. All in hair

think dd got 8 on face. One in hair but quite a few on back

its a mousse and you rub over body , it sinks in like sun cream and amazing

I’ve looked after many children with cp as a nanny and dabbed calamine lotion on all spots

this is much easier and quicker

but sounds like coming to an enD of cp for your little one

If you do want to get them vaccinated (if they've not had it) it's easy to book in privately through chemists. I booked it online and had it done at a local llloyds pharmacy. About £100, I thought it was well worth it. Can lessen spots if it's already incubating as well apparently.

ew1990 · 29/04/2022 13:11

@timeforananechang how you doing? DD was finally all scabbed over as of yesterday so we are free for a little while

OP posts:
Timeforanamechang · 29/04/2022 19:24

Oh that's great news @ew1990 , just in time for the long weekend! I'm not sure we're all scabbed over, just because there are so many! The spots in the nappy area aren't really oozy but they aren't really scabby either, I guess because not much air gets to them, it's taking longer for them to dry. She also randomly got a few spots between her fingers right at the end and they're still blistery. Hopefully we can resume activities next week!

I saw higher up that you had a cry at some point, I definitely did! It kind of peaked on Sunday night, she had a high temperature and her entire skin was burning hot from all the blisters. She was too uncomfortable to sleep and too uncomfortable to be held, it was horrible. She woke around every 30 mins screaming all night. Then Monday she suddenly managed a long nap in the pram and she woke up much brighter and had completely turned a corner. She's been absolutely fine since.

So although horrible, it was really only horrible for 2 or 3 days. It's lovely seeing her back to her smiley cheerful self!

I hope your second DD avoids it, such a miserable virus! But if not I can recommend an oat bath. It really seemed to get all the redness and irritation down. I wished I'd done it sooner but had been too worried to make things worse. I'll cross my fingers for you!

Timeforanamechang · 29/04/2022 19:33

Oh also how are your DD's marks/scabs looking? Do you know if there is anything we should use to prevent scars?

DD's aren't looking deep so hopefully they'll all disappear but just checking if there is something I should be doing to help!

ew1990 · 29/04/2022 22:01

They look OK so far, she has scratched quite a lot but mainly her head which I'm not too fussed about, she had a massive scab at the side of her lip which fell off before so I hope thay doesn't scar, she's still spooty but nowhere near as bad,

Some scabs still but some red dots too, time will tell.

I don't know wether I'm just being paranoid but got DD2 ready for bed and she had a spot on her hand! Will see how she goes and give her a bath in the morning see if it brings any out

Yeah I heard oat baths were good DD1 refused them and I didn't have the energy to argue so she had lots of head and shoulders baths 😂

And glad to hear your DD had turned a corner now. Wmevery morning more and more spots had disappeared and she had 2 stubborn ones in between her fingers which were really big and white, then she woke up and they were not white anymore and by bedtime they were scabby!
