Party bags - last minute help!

I am so disorganised, please help! Hosting our first birthday party this weekend (for twins who are turning 2). All pretty low key - food, toys, bouncy castle etc.

I think we should have small party bags but I hate the idea of tat and stuff for the sake of it so am thinking…

18m-2 year olds (15 children) - bubbles, stickers, some form of sweet treat. Something else?? Is this just pointless rubbish?

4 year olds (3 children) - I have no idea. Any ideas?

A book.
You can get multipacks at a good price ftom places like the works (they deliver). Id give a book to look at/have readn bubbles and a sweet thing. Books have always been really popular IME.

ohidoliketobe · 21/04/2022 10:29

I'd just do exactly the same. My 5 year old would be delighted with stickers, bubbles and freddo type choc bar

Toponeniceone · 21/04/2022 10:34

Bubbles, stickers, sweets is plenty. Slice of cake and a balloon. For all ages. Don't overthink it, it'll drive you mad.

bubbles & stickers for everyone. don't give different ages different things or any siblings will fuss about 'why has she got something better'.

OctopusSay · 21/04/2022 12:17

Don't get into this, be the parent in your friendship group who makes it Ok not to bother. Piece of cake, balloon, some sweets if you must.

Goldfishjones · 21/04/2022 12:18

Those things are fine for all ages - do the same for all ages, siblings arguments will ruin the experience otherwise!

Goldfishjones · 21/04/2022 12:19

Piece of cake is also fine on its own by the way.
Mini bag of Haribo with it might encourage them to leave if you're struggling to get rid of people!

Talipesmum · 21/04/2022 12:26

I like bubble wands much better than the little tubs of bubbles - they work much better and are easier for a parent to hold the bubbles bit and a kid to wave the wand about. And they’re pretty cheap in places like the works / supermarkets.

Stickers are nice. And small bag of sweets or eg iced gems?

MrsMiddleMother · 22/04/2022 00:37

Bubble wand and a piece of cake to take home. I honestly hate party bags, it's always the same shite and kids lose interest so so fast

Other parents will love you. Slice of cake, little bag of harbour, done. No need for anything else.

ArcheryAnnie · 22/04/2022 03:19
  • haribo not harbour!
MissMaple82 · 22/04/2022 03:29

3 year old love bubbles and stickers too

StillUp · 22/04/2022 04:07

We did a mini colouring book and a few packets of sweets in ours, plus cake. The colouring books were a few pounds for a big pack from Amazon.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 22/04/2022 05:21

Really don’t understand why people are so keen to give out Haribo at a 2 year olds party. It’s really not necessary. Please don’t do this OP. They have plenty of time for crap sweets.

a book or bubbles is absolutely fine.
also don’t understand cake being sent home, we always cut it up and served it there and then, at age 2 all the kids parents will be there and cake is always appreciated after you’ve been standing around watching your kid on a bouncy castle for 2 hours.
also a mum of twins and a veteran of many birthday parties.

workingmomlife · 22/04/2022 05:23

I hate all the tat you get in party bags especially balloons and bubble wands - the kids just want to keep everything and we have a box full of junk I'm not allowed to throw away! here's some good ones we've had over the years though

  • book - you can get 10 for £10 at The Works
  • little colourful plant pots and seeds
  • pencils
  • colourful hair scrunchies a surprising hit
sashh · 22/04/2022 06:48

I'd say something they can actually use, for two year olds that's going to be limited, for slightly older children coloured pencil sets / craft kits / colouring books - probably best done as part of the party.

I used to get lots of bits from Baker ross - I'm not a mum, but I did teach teenagers for years.

I hate balloons for little ones of that age. I have always been terrified of them trying to blow them up and accidentally choking on it.
Same with any lollipops like Chuba Chubs.
For 2/3 year olds I would do piece of cake or tube of smarties and a Hot Wheels car.

LoveAllCakes · 22/04/2022 07:06

Freddo, cake, stickers, haribo that was about it. Hated getting tat so never gave any. A balloon for a small child is ridiculous. Always bought 2 cakes, cut one up for the bags so they were ready to go and then the other one was for the candle blowing and taken home after. Can’t be doing with cutting and wrapping cake at the party. Although it is handy if a sibling arrives at pick up.

LoveAllCakes · 22/04/2022 07:08

@Needmorelego aargh lollies, hate them, how did I forget?
