School run

I currently work whilst my daughter is at nursery but I'm finding the school run takes an hour and a half in total to walk there and back, but I could do to work a little bit more to help my husband out. Obviously my daughter comes first I'm just wondering how to make the school run quicker as I don't drive, there doesn't seem to be any busses I was thinking maybe a taxi?

Bike with a child seat?

Lem0nDrizzle · 19/04/2022 12:23

Taxi if you can afford it but guessing it'll start being an expense that isn't needed.

Is there any buses from day 20 min walk away?

Hour and half there and back is a lot!! Nothing closer to home?

Can you learn to drive? Better than wasting money on taxis.

What do you mean to help your husband out?

Bikes if safe
Scooters
Share school runs with other local parents doing a similar route

Are you walking at child pace, or could you stick her in a buggy or give her a scooter to speed it up?

Taxis would be unsustainable long term, you’d be better off learning to drive.

Cornishmumofone · 19/04/2022 12:28

A bike with a FollowMe tandem and your child's bike attached? DD's school is 3 miles away, but with one-way roads, closed roads for school zones and traffic, I find this quicker than driving.

JurasicPerks · 19/04/2022 12:33

Cycle?
DD on a scooter or bike, and you walk.
You run home?

How much quicker is it when you ate on your own compared to with a child? ie is it the actual distance taking the time, or child walking speed?

louise456 · 19/04/2022 12:39

The school is only a mile away and I can do it in 15 mins if my daughter will go in the pram but most of the time she wants to walk and it takes agesss, I might think of cycling I just need a seat. I defo need to learn how to drive😂

I would just tell her that on the way to nursery she needs to use the pram and then let her walk on the way back if she wants and you have more time then. Or can you get her a smart trike type thing you can push?

Be a bit more strict and make her sit in the pram? Or get a ride on scooter like this thats a "big girl" scooter rather than a "baby" pram. Worked for my 18 month old. www.bargainmax.co.uk/globber-go-up-comfort-3in1-ride-on.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwu_mSBhAYEiwA5BBmf5ohEiZkKLlW_i-S0gR55tDPbsF3tpHW_sFsitqxA2yKM0TcMVfoVhoCgk8QAvD_BwE
AHungryCaterpillar · 19/04/2022 13:04

A mile is taking you 45 mins? She wouldn’t have a choice about going in the pram if it was me. You can’t pay for a taxi regularly for one mile who has that kind of money!

What happens if you go to nursery in a fast mode - either no stopping or her being pushed, and allow her to come back from nursery at her pace?
When you get to school (in September?)you will need to be on time, so getting into the habit of looking at every twig, stone, insect when you have time, and just walking when you don't, would be a good one to get into.

Surely she means he's the main income earner?
louise456 · 19/04/2022 13:45

Just so we're clear it can take 45 mins to an hour for the four journeys a day, dd is usually good in the pram but I'm just thinking of quicker ways

She goes in the pram for 10 mins then you walk rest of the way.

You're the mum, right? You have to work. If I have to work my daughter gets told I have to work so this/that is happening.

It's great she wants to walk it really is but also you need to work and you can compromise.

Lem0nDrizzle · 19/04/2022 13:54

I agree you need to just say Pram for going to nursery and back.
Your making it harder than it needs to be
