4 month old eczema

My son is 4 months old and he has really bad eczema.

I am wondering what creams worked for people.. we have been to the GP 4 times now and they have prescribed different creams each time that haven’t made a difference.

At the moment we are using hydrocortisone cream, Epaderm and Hydromol.

His eczema is all over his body but especially aggressive on his stomach and back.

We found Child's farm nappy cream soothed our LO well but have you tried to identify if something is triggering the eczema?

Our was triggered by a coconut allergy as he was having a lot of vegan dairy alternatives because of his cmpa. Dairy and soya allergies are a common cause though.

  1. wash his clothes with surecare with an extra rinse cycle. Don’t use any fabric softener.

  2. try and identify his triggers such as dust, milk allergy (if you are breastfeeding your may need to cut this out of your own diet), pets.

  3. the heating makes eczema worse so try an avoid putting the heating on ad much ad possible.

  4. always dress baby in cotton clothing.

  5. bedding should be cotton

  6. bath with a bath additive. You can put some oats in the bath or epsom salt.

I can suggest aveeno dermexa - my 15 month old has had eczema since 2 months old. He has it all over except for his hands. If the eczema persists please get your gp to refer you to a dermatologist.

GP gave us Cetraben to use in the bath 3x a week and Dermol 500 lotion to use 2x daily. Took weeks and weeks to clear up - I think warmer weather and less central heating helped. Always suspected it could have been a sensitivity to eggs via my breastmilk.

Thanks for replying! I have got yet another phone call with the GP but not until the 4th May. I have also asked if it could be an allergy. I don’t breastfeed I formula feed so could be milk? We use Hydromol in the bath and use dermol as a soap substitute on him. We then use Epaderm as a moisturiser twice a day but maybe I should do this every nappy change.

Nothing seems to be helping and he has started itching his stomach as well which he never used to do so I know it is bothering him.
