Good parenting websites for babies and young children

Are there any good websites about parenting of babies and young children? Babies weren't born with instruction manuals, but collective human knowledge and medicine must have resulted in some good information for new parents.

What resources do you use or do health visitors, the NHS, GPs or hospitals recommend for new parents?

Or what do they offer women in other countries leaving hospital with a newborn?

Mumsnet? It's not just a chat forum you know.

I don't think that kind of thing really exists any more?

Mumsnet is good. Some of the Reddit forums are good but most a bit scaremongering and intense and they do skew towards American advice.

For people to follow on social media I like Amy Brown (breastfeeding uncovered), Lyndsey Hookway and Janet Lansbury.

Actually I've thought of some

Lullaby trust for safe sleep info
NHS for info about what to do if they are ill, advice on things like feeding and weaning and recommended/not recommended foods
RoSPA for accident prevention
First steps nutrition trust has useful info about formula and weaning
I can talking point for speech and language development info

Hi there I'm seeking advice with a situation of mine involving my ex (kids dad) and phone calls wondering if someone can help in showing me how I go about opening a new thread?

BertieBotts · 22/04/2022 07:52

Oh it's been hidden since the update for no reason at all Hmm

You go into the section you want to make a thread. I'd suggest Relationships. At the top right of the section there is a small drop down arrow and there is an option to start a new thread there.

UK ones I actually read/check:

  • Mumsnet (for the real-life takes + honesty)
  • RAISLY.COM (newer parenting site, feels more evidence-based but still relatable)
  • Netmums (hit and miss but some genuinely useful stuff)
  • NHS (when I want actual evidence-based info)
  • NCT (good for basics without too much fluff)
  • BBC Good Food (family meal ideas that feel realistic)
  • Which? (for proper reviews when you’re buying kid stuff)
