Wiping toddler's bum

I feel really awkward asking this question, but hopefully someone on here has some advice! Nearly 3yo DD is mostly potty trained, still in nappies at night. Can't get her to poo in the toilet, she saves it for night when she's in her nappy. Looking at how to stop this, but I'm thinking that if this is what she's comfortable with right now, then that's fine. However she doesn't like us cleaning her bum after pooping anymore. We've had some issues with her getting red and sore in front when we've missed some poop, so have tried to tell her we need to get into all the 'cracks', but she cries and tells us to get off. How do we get her to let us clean her properly, while still reinforcing the message that they are her privates and she can still say that no one can touch them?

Obviously this is separate to bath time - by the time she poops it's too late for a bath and we just want to be able to clean her with water wipes as it's quicker. Her cleaning herself is an option in the bath, but it's not really thorough enough.

Thanks!

I shower my toddler and started about 17 months old. We have a shower attachment you can hold in your hand. She still has baths as well but not every night.

She actually washes her own bum.

I discovered that her CM who helped potty trainer at 2 on a potty got her to wash her bottom in her shower if she made a mess. (From this I got her to wash her entire body when showering or bathing.)

So anyway on the handful of occasions my DD has made a complete mess, after wiping as much as possible she gets put in the shower and told to wash her own bum.

I'm luckily that my DD doesn't like making a mess in general. She also doesn't want to be considered a baby so definitely doesn't like baby wipes being used on her bum, this started about 4 months after she was potty trained, and tries to use toilets rather than potties, this started when she was about 3 years 2 months.

Oh and she has pooed twice in her pull ups at night over winter because she couldn't be bothered to get out of bed. However we worked this was in the morning before she got up as we checked her at night and her normal bowel movements means she poos in the morning.

I second the shower.
Doesn't even need to be a full shower. If my son has an accident I just strip him from the waist down and wash his bum with the shower head. It is easier and quicker than wipes for bigger messes

Thanks, will give that a go!

It's not the question you asked but my 3 year old went through this exact phase.

What fixed it was using the poo goes to pooland app. It's like magic! We literally used it once at it worked. It tells a story of a poo wanting to go down the toilet to find his poo family. It's gross but it appeals to that age group.

She's a little bit older now but still occasionally waves goodbye to her poo so he can go and find his poo family Confused

Haha just had a look at that app @pastabest, we'll show DD, I'm sure she'll love it!
