Sleeping bag- should I have got rid?

Just wondered when people usually stop using a baby sleeping bag? My little one is nearly 20m and still has one.

She's happy in it and sleeps well so I guess no need to make a change just yet but she does seem like she will be outgrowing hers soon and it just made me wonder what the average age for getting a duvet instead was?

Thanks Smile

my son started on a duvet around 18
He used to have sleeping bags but over the summer it was way too warm for them so had no blanket. Then when I got him an awesome new dinosaur bag for the autumn he refused. he liked his feet being free haha.
He's happy with his toddler quilt and toddler pillow now

Danikm151 · 14/04/2022 11:04

18 months that is

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 14/04/2022 11:04

My DD just turned 2 and we still use sleeping bags as she still fits in them with plenty of room to spare. She's small for her age though. She has a coverlet but very rarely wants to get under it and moves around the bed lots during the night so I think she'd be way too cold at night without the sleeping bag as we have a cold house.
Once it's warmer I'll be taking the sleeping bag away permanently.

My daughter 6 (7 in June) still uses her slumbersac the one with feet now.
Loves it couldn't imagine life without. Even my 10 & 12 yr old wish they had one. Xx

FTEngineerM · 14/04/2022 11:06

I don’t know why but I read that as 20 meters 😂 and thought wow thatss a loooooong sleeping bag

We changed ours to a toddler quilt and pillow from Argos at 12m old.

Bornsloppy · 14/04/2022 11:09

DC1 started unzipping his in the night at about 18mo so moved to a duvet then.

Hugasauras · 14/04/2022 11:10

You can get ones with legs that go up to quite old. Slumbersac do them and they're v cozy!

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 14/04/2022 11:15

DD went into a single bed at 17 months (after launching herself out of her cot despite being in a sleeping bag). Bed was taller than normal due to having another one underneath it so she couldn’t safely have sleeping bags on anymore.

kimfox · 14/04/2022 11:21

With DC3 I got rid of it when he suddenly appeared at the bottom of the stairs at 11pm still wearing it! 😱😂 he was about 24 mo though.

babysleephelp · 14/04/2022 12:57

@kimfox 😂 I've got this image of him shuffling through the house

We stopped using them when we took the bars off the cot, so they wouldn't fall over when they got out of bed in the night. So 2 and a bit for DC1 and 18 months for DC2.

Dyra · 14/04/2022 13:36

Just after her 2nd birthday. And only because she'd grown out of them. She's yet to last an entire night under her duvet. She's a serious wriggler at night.

Aside from it being a bit dangerous it scared the life out of me - not a peep just a looming toddler in a grobag! 😂

DS is still going strong with a sleeping bag at nearly 2. The 18 months to 3 year ones are great, although he’s both tall and wide so I doubt they’ll last us all the way to 3. DS is completely fine in a cot though, no plans on changing to a bed yet, when that happens will probably have to abandon the bags too!

Think I will do this too, may also see what happens if very warm weather comes along the his summer. Thank you!

My 3 year old has one with legs. My elder daughter refused hers around 4.

SRK16 · 14/04/2022 20:53

My son is 2.5/and happy in his. Our house is cold and I haven’t wanted him to throw off a duvet and wake up freezing… I’m thinking to transition to a duvet now it’s getting a bit warmer, but in no rush at all. Equally I’m in no rush to take the side off the cot!

elrider · 14/04/2022 21:00

I kept sleeping bags (up to 18-36 month size in a variety of togs) and bars on the cot bed as long as possible. Got to 3 and a bit with both, then took the sides off (replaced with a bed guard) and added a lightweight duvet. Planning to do the same again, though I realise if I have an escape artist I might not get that far this time!

dementedpixie · 14/04/2022 21:03

My ds was in his until 2½ years at which point he went into a single bed with duvet

MyHusbandTheIdiot · 14/04/2022 21:07

Only just got rid of our slumbersacs (worn backwards to avoid unzipping and nappy removal…..) at 2.5. Now in a double bed with a cosy duvet and a bed guard.

Springdaisy · 14/04/2022 22:19

We moved DS into a big bed at 18months when his sister was born, because she needed his cot. He started using a duvet in the bed.
DD stayed in her cot until she was 4 years (shes tiny). I kept her in a sleeping bag while in the cot because she kept kicking away the blanket.
It really depends on your child.

modgepodge · 15/04/2022 22:27

Mine is 3 and still in a sleeping bag and a cot!! If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

To be fair, we have lots of sleeping bags of all different togs (3 winter, at least 3 summer) - all hand me downs - if we hadn’t been given these I’m not sure I’d have bothered as they are expensive. But as I have them and she sleeps well, I’ve stuck with them.
