Toddler chipped her front teeth!

So we went swimming for the first time today and after the lesson the two us slipped. I just got a sore bum but toddler was screaming and I saw she cut her bottom lip. The blood went away fairly quickly as it wasn't deep.

But when I got home I noticed her front two teeth had chipped!! I was so upset! More than she actually was, it hasn't really bothered her

Luckily the gum didn't bleed but the chip is quite sharp. I'm going to call dentist tomorrow to see if they will see her. Does anyone know is the dentist will file it down?

Pic attached :(

How old is she? Might be best just to leave them if they're not painful. Might need monitoring if they change colour but it's not routine to treat this in young toddlers.

My dd did this with her adult front teeth and the dentist filled them. He said if the top chips off it leave the Center of the tooth open to decay. Only they can tell you though.

The dentist will file it and just leave it till it falls out naturally. It’s very common, my kids chipped their baby teeth too.

@Mrsmorton she's 18 months, problem is she also sucks her thumb so don't want her doing any damage to teeth or thumb

DD chipped her front tooth at six months, before it was even fully through 🤦🏻‍♀️

Dentist didn’t file it, said it would just naturally be ground down, no need for treatment.

My daughter managed to fall into a marble fireplace at a similar age. She bit straight through her lip, chipped her tooth and pushed what was left right up into her gum. Our dentist and the maxfax surgeon in a&e said to just leave it. Definitely see the dentist but they probably won’t do a lot. It’s heart breaking when they damage their little teeth, take care of yourself xx

DS chipped his front top teeth at a similar age. I was so upset! I took him to the dentist who didn’t even file them - he said it was only worth filing them if he was bothered by them, otherwise it may upset him for nothing. He also said that the bottom of the front teeth chip easily on children as it’s such a thin part of the tooth and that in time the rest of the tooth would wear down a little.

I felt really guilty, but within a year the chips were not that noticeable. By the time he started school, they looked fine.

Thank you everyone you've definitely made this guilty feeling mum feel slightly better
