Quick question for those in University

Hiya,

Am applying for a university place for Sept 08, but bit nervous as I'm also on a diploma where I have one tutorial a month away from home.

So, how easy is it to miss one day a month. It'll be a full-time course, and have been told about 2-3days actually in university.

Thanks

TBH, this is the final thing that is stopping me sending my UCAS form!

Going to be offline for a few hours, but'll respond soon.

Just do it! As long as you keep your work on top form you should be fine. It's so easy to imagine a uni full of full time never-miss-a-day swots, but let's be realistic, us Mums that are dealing with a family also probably put in 110% effort when we are there!
Just blag it, get yourself a place, then see how it goes, if they pull you up about it then do the age old trick and cry!!! then tell them how hard you're working etc etc and you'll breeze through!
I'm just starting my 3rd year at uni and i'm so bloody proud of myself, my kids are too. I'd do anything not to go back onto working tax credits, so I told myself i'd train as a teacher. Believe me it's so worth it, does loads for your self esteem. What will you be doing at uni?

Thanks for replying.
I'm hoping to study Psychology and Social Welfare as a Joint honours.

Sounds really interesting, I really hope you do it. How old are you? I'm 29 now and studying has really helped me to remember that I am still a young person and not just a Mum. I also think it's hugely important to show children what a great role model we can be, mums are generally good role models anyway, but when both my 2 were born we had very little money (we still don't have much!!!) but my kids have seen me work through that to hopefully better our situation, so best of luck to you!!

I missed a few lectures (my FT course was also 2/3 days in uni - transpired that those days = 2/4 hours!) so it was easy enough to catch up.

Don't forget that you can always ask your tutor for a recap meeting if you don't understand notes someone has taken for you.

I don't think one day a month would make a huge difference (speaking as someone who teaches in a university) but it might be worth having a chat with the admissions tutors of the unis you are applying to to check it wouldn't be a huge deal.

Good luck!

So glad to hear that you're going for it sticksandstones! you won't regret it, and noname is right, a day a month is not that much really, i'd be more worried for you if you were only going in one day a month!!
good luck and enjoy it!
