Baby led weaning

My baby is 5months going on 6months so I've been thinking about weaning. I would like to try baby led as it seems fun. My baby has cows milk allergy so I have to stay clear of lots of stuff. 8 was just wondering what foods you gave to your baby on their first day of trying food. Also this might be a daft question but do you start them off with one meal or did you feed them a meal for breakfast dinner and tea? As I know milk is still their main source of nutrition?

Any tips etc would be greatly appreciated. Im also really anxious about serving him unblended foods I'm going to learn what to do incase he does actually choke god forbid...

I tried blended vegetables for lunch and built up amounts. I had a free Ella's kitchen book from boots that had good concoctions. Try veg before fruit so they don't get too much of a sweet tooth. I spoon fed purées as it just went everywhere but my DDs mouth! Once she got the hang of gumming and her motor skills got better she feeds herself now- tries to anyway! Highly recommend the bibado bibs. Minimises the carnage somewhat!

We just started giving food when we were eating so sat with us and gave things from our plate. DD1 had lots of veg, DD2 first food was chips…both grew to be healthy children

If you feel anxious you don't have to do baby led weaning. I know it's what everyone seems to do now but that doesn't mean it's the best - there are no significant proven advantages either way. Do spoon feeding if it appeals to you.

Both my children have/had cmpa and we managed blw. In would just start on one meal a day and then build up. At the beginning with milk feeds, all there naps and cleaning the high chair you would never leave the house if you gave them 3 meals a day.

I agree with yourself worried their is nothing wrong with ‘traditional’ weaning. My 5 year old is just as fussy as her classmates now.

I’m currently doing BLW with my almost 7 month old but only started last week. I would definitely start with just 1 meal a day otherwise you’ll be spending all day cleaning the mess. As your little one learns more about food you can increase the meals Smile

Most of it ends up on the floor. Don’t get me wrong I love the mess and watching him have fun exploring but there is quite a lot of waste if you go straight to 3 meals.
