Baby skin opinion

My little boy is 5 weeks old and suffers with reflux. He’s currently on gaviscon and it does seem to be helping but ever since I started feeding him, his face and neck are covered in these little spots that flare up during the feed.
I’ve tried mentioning it to the gp and shown a photo but she said it’s normal and will go with time.
I want to trust the doctors as obviously they know more than me but I can’t help but worry it’s something more than normal baby acne.
Would you go back to the doctors if your baby’s skin looked like this? Or has your baby had this and it turned out to be nothing and eventually went or turned out to be a milk allergy/ something else that needs more investigation?

Baby acne I’ve seen isn’t inflamed like that, and doesn’t go up and down when being fed.

Midwife/ baby clinic might be more helpful than the Gp?

@ThatPosterIsSoRight thank you for your reply! Yes I agree. I don’t think it is just acne but getting anyone to listen to me is pretty impossible. I’ve already been discharged from the midwife (I shouldn’t have done as my episiotomy isn’t healing) but I might give them a call anyway and see what they say.

Good luck. Is there a baby clinic, where you take your baby to be weighed and the health visitors can help with questions?

@ThatPosterIsSoRight thank you. There is but it’s the other side of the city and I don’t drive but since I’m not due to see my health visitor for another 2.5 weeks, I’ll contact them too and make the trip if it means we get seen earlier.

Are you breast or bottle feeding? I ask as affects the likelihood of CMPA. Those spots combined with reflux though make me think it’s v likely.

Hugasauras · 09/04/2022 19:55

I'd think allergy too. Are you breastfeeding or formula feeding? If the former, you could cut out dairy first to see if it makes a difference. Egg is another common allergen too. If you're FF you can buy special formula but it's v expensive. It might be worth doing one tin to test and while you wait for the HV, etc.

@Alexahelp and @Hugasauras thanks for your replies.
it hadn’t been my plan but he’s formula fed so unfortunately I can’t make any changes with myself to help. I do think it’s an allergy even though two paediatrician told me it’s normal spots after seeing them about his reflux. I will see about the special formula (I assume I can still add the gaviscon as if it’s standard formula) and pester the gp again on Monday to be seen.
