Mine were about 3 months but it was in a warm hydrotherapy pool for baby swimming lessons :)

10 weeks - baby swim class in a hydrotherapy pool. Very warm.

PinkPlantCase · 08/04/2022 10:57

Around 3 months here aswell Smile

Just to the local leisure centre, they did a baby session a few times a week.

Didn’t buy anything fancy, just a swim nappy. He had a great time and didn’t seem bothered by the temperature at all. He was quite large though so had lots of fat on him!

He’d always sleep really well afterwards

5.5 weeks. Nice warm and quiet pool at a local hotel that lets the public in.

We went once at 12 weeks and then regularly from about 6 months

A few months.

Is love to take mine but I just can't afford it no public pools nearby all private at very expensive gyms
My kids are 6 and 3 it's not great but we just don't have the money to be able to pay for lessons

APurpleSquirrel · 08/04/2022 11:05

Around 2-3 months - either in the warm hydrotherapy pools for baby swimming classes or the warm toddler pools at a local sports centre.

To be far it's costing me £9 for myself and DD (4) to go to public swimming pools at the moment, so hardly cheap. We are fortunate that we can afford this regularly (just unfortunate that due to a cold, COVID and now vomiting bug we having only make it once this half term).

I do worry with rising energy bills, and swimming pools being extremely expensive to run at the best of times, what is going to happen to swimming prices, or even pools staying open at all.

Between 10-12 weeks

sjxoxo · 08/04/2022 11:09

Thanks all for your replies. I saw a few sites online saying 6 months but I was hoping to go soon- he is 12 weeks so I’ll give it a go! xo

Babies can go in from birth now. The advice used to be from after they had their first jabs. My eldest was around 3 months old (8 years ago), my middle was 3 weeks old (when I had stopped bleeding properly) and my youngest was 1 week old with her dad and siblings (as I was still bleeding). Nice warm pool and warm suit on. They all love swimming - have fun!!

RedPanda901 · 08/04/2022 11:22

It's good to go when they are quite young to get them used to the water but don't pay for 'lessons' until they're 3 upwards. They can't really listen to instructions/coordinate to actually swim until this age. They just want to play with you.

elbea · 08/04/2022 11:33

We started at 11 weeks, at nearly two she’s really confident in the water. Swimming holding onto a float, jumping in, climbing out on her own and lots of great safety skills. Definitely money well spent!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/02/2023 11:25

2 months. No lessons until they were about 6 (not available where we were living). Both were extremely confident in the water by about 2 1/2 - 3, but proper strokes came later.
