Making your own christening cake ?

So instead of paying someone to do the christening cake I wanted to do it myself I was planning on buying a ready to decorate white iced cake from the supermarket and then get some christening cake toppers and put them on but I’ve looked everywhere and they only do ones that serve like 12 people when I need it to serve 30 ish . Any suggestions I have never baked a cake in my life so

Buy as many cakes as you think you need, and just ice one to look fancy. I don’t think there’s a cutting ceremony for Christening cake🤷‍♀️

Cupcakes and add a second tier to the main cake.

I made both my children's christening cakes.

To do a second tier, by 2 cakes one a bit smaller than the other. Push some drinking straws or kebab sticks into the centre of the cake and cut them flush with the cake. Sit the second tier on top of this. Then decorate.

For the cupcakes, a simple cake recipe will work and by pre made icing to pipe on top.

Hire a cake stand and have several tiers?

@Twizbe I wanted to do this but I can’t find any plain cakes that are different sizes to each other

I got two different sized tier from Sainsburys, put one on top of the other and covered the top one in fresh edible flowers sprinkled with icing sugar.

Marks and Spencers used to do plain iced cakes in different sizes in their cake order booklets - designed to stack yourself to make celebration cakes. If I recall correctly there were fruitcake, victoria sandwich and chocolate options, square, round and a cutting bar. Have to order in advance though.

Waitrose do them

I've used these loads, really good.

I was going to suggest the same but I can't find them on their website. Looks like they don't do them any more Sad

I’ve looked at cakes the size I need is like £30 then like £25 at least for the toppers for it to look half decent so I’ve found someone who charged £60 for a 10 inch cake so I’m just gonna get one of her saves thr stress as I thought I’d save a fair bit of money making it myseld but for the sake of aboit £20 I may aswell get it made
