How do people manage it once they're all school? Especially if you're in jobs where there is sometimes no guarantee you'll get out on time?

My job has changed a lot and when we had children I always finished on time, now maybe twice a month i will finish late which in itself is fine but husband is also debating a job which would land him in a similar situation but its more often he will be late

Is it possible? No family support locally

A babysitter after school could work!! Thank you!

We are trying to work out if its feasible before he applies for the change of role but he would really like to go for it

Its the fact he could be due to finish at 4pm and finish at 10pm which will be fine as long as I'm not on a late finish but obviously if I'm away it's a huge problem

We have a part time nanny. She's also a Mum and brings her children too. She's amazing; we come home to dinner cooked and ready, she has covered when I've been stuck at home and husband is away. It's expensive for our only but worth it and probably much better value for multiples!

5pm seems early for Afterschool. As others have said you could check if any Childminders around but you'd need to pay for regular hours usually not just ad hoc.

But if not unfortunately it just sounds as if your DH taking on the new role is incompatible with your childcare arrangements until DCs are old enough to make their own way home from school.

I'll look into a nanny option thank you!

@rookiemere he is happy to give up the idea until the dc are secondary age if needed we just thought we'd research so thank you
