Calpol help!

My 17 month old is poorly (temp, cough, snotty nose). Yesterday he didn't nap and we've been up in the night due to his horrible cough. The problem is I can't get him to have any calpol (or nurofen). He just pushes the syringe away and says 'No Mummy!' I've tried it on a spoon, giving him the syringe to do it but no luck. In the past I've pinned him down to do it (and felt awful doing so!) and it was horrendous. He's off his food so can't even mix it in something he might eat. What can I do? Can I put it in his morning milk? Really need some advice from all you experienced Mummy's out there - from a sleep deprived working FTM x

Will he have it in a bit of yoghurt or fruit purée?

My three would only and will only have the pink one with sugar in.

Sorry I clearly didn’t read with my mix in the food advice.
Add it to a little cooled boiled water and try with a bottle ?
Failing that syringe in the side of the cheek in tiny amounts gradually.

Put it in his milk
Freeze it into an ice cube to suck

Break a calpol fast melt in half and crush it, then tip in his mouth like teething powder. They're meant for 6+ kids but half a tablet is the dose for your 17 month old. A GP told me to do this, or to get the 6+ liquid and give half the dose and pin mine down to give it in a syringe - it's less liquid to get in them as it's 2.5ml rather than 5ml. The normal baby ibuprofen dose is also 2.5ml rather than 5ml too so might be easier.

You can get paracetamol suppositories. Ask at the pharmacy.
Or, if he doesn't have a raging temp then don't bother. Our bodies are meant to have a raised temperature when we're ill as it's how the body kills the germs. Obviously you don't want it to be too high but if it's just a general cold virus, he might be ok without any medicine.

It's fine to put in milk. Sometime you have to be a bit forceful if is really necessary lay him flat and squirt with a syringe it's not nice but over in seconds

I used to put it at the very top of a petit filou so they got the dose in the first spoonful

We got suppositories from an online pharmacy. Blowing on the face worked for DD1 but not DD2 so she got suppositories. Way easier.
