Baby Screams with Dad and Not Mum

Hi,

It's become a regular thing now where my baby who is 3 months old will not feed with Dad unless I'm no where to be seen, I've actually hid behind the sofa before so Dad can feed baby.
It's just when it comes to night time baby screams the house down & has done for over a hour once because dad was holding him, it's just got to the point where I was crying profusely as well, and Dad in the end gave up, which he always does & gives baby to me which then he settles.
It's very frustrating for both me & my partner.
I don't understand why baby has all of a sudden become like this. I had to have a c-section which Dad obviously did a lot of duties for a while, but then Dad went back to work he works nights & does 4 on 4 off. It seems to be a thing that baby wakes up before Dad comes home so I give baby to dad until he goes to bed & then when he gets up I give baby to him.

I just don't know what to do about the constant screaming with dad && not wanting to be fed by him.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately some babies are just very bonded to their primary carers. They know your smell and sounds and are happiest with you. It's no reflection on how good Dad is.
It will pass, but it might be like this for a while. Make sure baby and Dad get some time alone if that's what works. If feeding is too upsetting, maybe he could bath the baby, go for walks etc?.
Sometimes babies are more clingy when teething or a bit under the weather, have you checked temperature and suchlike?

My baby is 4.5 months and is more than happy with other people (so long as I am in the house). I left her with my mam whilst I popped out for 10mins earlier and came back and she was screaming and upset.

She had spent a lot of the day with my mam and happily playing with her earlier.

I can't offer advice, but just wanted to say you aren't alone.

@Beamur thank you for your comment.
I do get Dad to bath him when he's home & if I poo to the shops he's alone with him, but he says that when baby feeds he doesn't take his milk properly.
On the teething side of things he has been chewing his hands & dribbling a lot, which I've been told is a sign.

@Dipsydoodlenoodle My baby is happy with other people, he took a bottle off both my sisters the other day & also slept on my eldest sister, but when it comes to dad you would have thought he was being born again the way he screams.

It is horrible because you feel like you can't do anything without the baby. Sad

One of my children was like that but with me. Like you dh had to hide or he would cry if I went to feed him. I've no advice, it lasted about a month then suddenly stopped!

IWannaRock · 07/04/2022 07:06

My daughter did this at about 3/4 months old too. Whenever DH came home and would hold her she'd cry. It happened with a few friends too. I think it's just a phase some babies go through. It's utterly horrible and hard not to take personally. I think it only lasted a few weeks though. Maybe just persist with him being around whilst you're holding her and him playing with her from afar (peek a boo etc) so she gets comfortable again. It won't last forever.

Although it did happen again at about 18 months, which was really shit as she could say "noooo daddy!!" Great stuff. But she's a total daddy's girl now and loves playing with him!

I honestly have no idea. My eldest has been like this from birth, and she’s three now and still doesn’t seem to like him much

It's quite common for babies to become fixated on one carer. I used to actually go out so that DH was the only option for DD and it did help after a bit. I'm sure she could smell me if I was in the same building!!

My baby was find with her dad for the first 11 months and still is mostly during day but at night if it's not me holding her boy does she lose it. Unless he's holding her right next to me. I've put it down to her going through a leap and having a run of illnesses
