(maybe TMI!) - 4 yr olds poo really pale?

Hello, sorry this is a bit much TMI I know but I'm a bit concerned!! All day my DD4 has been complaining of stomach ache and she's done several lots of really pale sloppy poo - not white or chalky more like a pale beigey sort of colour. Everything I've googled either says brown/tan/yellow is normal and if it's white or chalky to have them seen by a Dr... But nothing about if it's in between?! Is this just normal sometimes or should I be worried?? Sorry everyone for the details! She's not running a fever or anything else so wondered if it's just some kind of bug she's picked up at preschool....?

See what colour the next poo is. If it is the same colour, fish it out the toilet and put it in a container (old take-over container best) then book an appointment with the doctor.

Note: I'm not medically trained. The above advice is simply what I would do. It does not mean it is correct.

Thanks @duvetdayforeveryone I'll do that.. she's not been off her food at all so I'm hoping it's not anything serious. Google sometimes makes you more worried about stuff doesn't it!

If its just a one off poo, ignore it. If it's not just a one off, then definitely phone the GP.

Ps a description would probably be enough, a photo at a push- I don't think they'd want the actual poo in a random container. If they did decide they wanted a sample, they would give you a specific sample pot.

Please don’t bring a turd to the doctor! A photo will be plenty.

And signs of jaundice, OP?

And signs of jaundice, OP?

They can test it.

They don't need much.

HubbabubbaT · 06/04/2022 20:53

@Rainallnight no signs of jaundice or itching or anything really other than stomach ache and these weird poos

Has she eaten a lot of fatty/oily food lately?

Having said that, if it persists and no infection is diagnosed, it might be an intolerance. My ds used to get this after eating lot of food containing wheat (though he didn't complain of pain, so not identical). His poos didn't really smell of poo, oddly they smelt a bit sweet and yeasty?. Started a bit younger, he was still in nappies. We actually kept him off wheat altogether in the end, eventually he grew out of it aged about 6 or 7. He was tested for coeliac and allergies generally, oddly those tests came back negative. But it was definitely a thing with him for a while.

Has she been off her food? My eldest gets like this when off colour and not eating much, but still drinking plenty of milk.

Pale poo can be a sign of liver problems....best to get checked out if still unwell.
It’s been in news about a rise in kids with hepatitis which they don’t yet know the cause for but possibly viral/maybe covid related.
Dark urine, pale poo, itchy skin, muscle/joint pain, high temp, nausea/vomiting, tiredness, stomach pain, loss of appetite are some of symptoms

Update : she then came down with severe diarrhea... Norovirus going round preschool... And now I've got it too! Such fun Confused .... DH banished to the other bedroom so he doesn't get it too and we're buying anti-bac and disinfectant like it's sunflower oilGrin
