Helping 9-10 month old to crawl

DD will be 10 months in a week and still can't get onto a hands and knees position. I've tried to get her into the position but she lays flat instead. She rolls side to side (does this often) and can roll back to belly and vice versa (but rarely does it). She doesn't move about like a typical 9 month old, E.g. tall kneeling, moving into different positions, though she is very fond of standing and being walked. She needs help and always looks for help with moving about and getting things out of her reach. Tummy time has not really improved since she turned 6 months - it's as if she's just stuck.

All other development is fine. How can I encourage her to move about independently?

I understand some babies don't crawl at all but it's also the lack of being able to do other independent movements which concern me.

I have a baby who is ten months on the 13th April and she also doesn't get onto all fours
She can roll but rarely does it

Doesn't crawl in any form.
She can sit up but doesn't get from sitting to tummy or tummy to sitting alone.
She can bear weight standing but I have to stand her up haha. No assisted steps though.

I think it's very normal and we only really see the babies who are doing things and not all the ones who sit on there bottoms.
Mine also won't let me put her all on fours and she doesn't get onto her knees etc yet.

She usually gets angry on her tummy even though she can roll back she doesn't bother and screams for me to sit her up 🤣

Mine was exactly like this. She did it in her own time but I think what helped was encouraging her to come forward onto all fours from a sitting position (she never managed it from her tummy). I’d sit her down and put something irresistible (my keys, the TV remote, some bread if she was lucky 😂) just out of reach in front of her and eventually after a lot of leaning and rocking she figured it out. But I’d also say just don’t worry, they all get there in their own time (or skip it and find a better way to move around)

Honestly I wouldn’t worry. I never crawled at all as a baby and neither did one of my babies. We’re both walking around now with no problems! Some babies just don’t like to crawl!!

Qwill · 06/04/2022 13:24

If she can stand and likes being walked I don’t see this as a problem also.

My now two year old was exactly the same as this and it caused me loads of sleepless nights. She did start to crawl (of sorts) at 11 months and was walking by 13 months. There are lots of paediatric physio videos on YouTube which can help show ways to encourage them to learn to get into the right position. We found this especially helpful with teaching our daughter to get from sitting to crawling position and vice versa as it took even longer than the 11 months mentioned previously for this to happen!

Please try not to worry to much about it as I wish I hadn’t. Also it is worth raising with your health visitor if you have one as I found their reassurance that it was still within the realms of normal really helpful :)

Sorry, I should have mentioned she stands supported not by herself, so holding onto furniture although I have to place her there.

I know babies all move about at different times but it feels stressful when every other baby her age that I meet seems to be crawling or very nearly crawling, or standing by themselves etc😫

I know I shouldn't compare but it's hard not to notice these things sometimes lol

My daughter didn't crawl till she was over one and didn't walk till she was nearly two! We did worry at the time but she was just lazy. She's six now and absolutely fine.

Some babies army crawl. Some don't crawl at all. Crawling doesn't matter, I'd let it go op.

Whatever00 · 07/04/2022 18:12

Stop stressing. DC will do it in her own time. My DC1 meet crawled she rolled everywhere.

Never crawled
jupitermars1345 · 07/04/2022 18:51

OP my eldest also didn't crawl until 12.5 months but then she was walking at 15 months
She was the same as my little one is at ten months this time to.
She maybe rolled a bit more but that was the only difference. Still didn't really roll to get around though
