Xrays for the under 4's

Greetings my first post.

One of our male grandkids was born with a slightly webbed foot. There is a minor deformity with the little toe on his left foot and there is skin growing between the little toe and the next toe. He is three and a half and the little toe is starting to point outwards making the wearing of shoes uncomfortable. We would like to get it corrected before he starts school and there is this wearing of shoes issue, also he complains that there is some discomfort.

We have spoken with the Nuffield and they say we can see a consultant but they have also said xrays will be possible until he is four. Why is this and has anyone experienced similar.

My son had X-rays when he was two, but he had very different issues. So maybe this is a policy thing or to do with your grandkid’s specific condition.

Probably because of the radiation. X-rays and scans can sometimes cause cancer, I believe (though usually don't), if you have too many. Maybe for v. Young children the dose is too high?

Both my kids were xrayed under 4 so I woukd say it was more to do with the particular issue or that hospitals equipment than a ban on under 4s wholesale.
