feverish baby

nine week old DS came down with a fever, his temperature is 38.9, I have just given calpol as advised by our family doctor for when he's got fevers; however, should i give them or the emergency services another call?

according to some health pages, should contact emergencies if a baby under 3 months comes down with a random fever (not caused by vaccinations or given reason), but my baby looks fine. he's eating fine, seems to be content, smiling and laughing (as they do at a young age) and is generally ok other than the fever?

should i contact anyone or just keep a watch on him. my instincts are telling me he'll be ok and after the calpol starts working his fever will drop and he'll be fine, but i don't want to be a bad mother and have spoken to a professional as could be worst??

I’d probably give it 20/30 mins and see if it comes down, if not, then try 111 (who will likely sent you to A&E with such a small baby). Worth contacting GP when they’re open if temp does come down as a quick once over on such a little one won’t hurt but baby seeming well and feeding is a good sign.

I'm not sure where you are in the world but in the UK I'd call 111 if the fever isn't down 20 minutes after medicine at that age.

In the UK a baby under 3 months should be seen by GP ir ypu should call 111.
