Chickenpox vaccine - can child get vaccine if already exposed?

I feel terrible, I had no idea there was a chicken pox vaccine!

DS has just been sent home from nursery with spots.

I presumed it would now be too late for a vaccine but done some reading on here & one poster said the vaccine was effective up to 5 days after exposure. I can’t see any mention on the NHS website or Boots (who provide this vaccine). But they also don’t say you can’t have it if showing symptoms.

Can anybody offer any insight please?

Thanks!

I’d say you are too late now. Post exposure I think means, from the date when they first were in contact with someone who had it. It would seem that your son now has CP? The vaccine would be pointless now.

There's a delay between exposure and developing the disease and during that time you can have the vaccine. Once you've got it though it's too late.

Ah ok thanks. That makes sense.

How the hell did I miss that there was a vaccine?!

I guess I'd better focus my googling on topical treatments instead.

Thanks both.

14-16 day incubation period. I would ask the pharmacist what they recommend.

Our twins got the spots 14 days after exposure to it and 7mth old baby got them 16 days after the twins started with it. Baby still has marks from the spots now but they weren't very unwell with it.
