Please give me your routine ideas for your little ones as we are currently struggling with them 'to nap or not to nap' but exhausted by bedtime where he doesn't want to eat dinner... help.

Both of mine had dropped their naps by 3, even the sleepy one. Could you try an earlier bedtime instead?

OneGlamMama · 31/03/2022 19:03

We did drop the nap... but occasionally he has fallen asleep in the car on journeys, which has out routine out of whack.

If he goes to bed too early, he wakes in the night because he is hungry and asks for milk

Milk in the night at 3 years old, no way! My daughter hasn't had milk in the night since about 12 weeks! That will be comfort/routine not hunger. Ditch the nap. Bed at 7.30-8.

We replaced nap time with 'quiet time' in their bedroom for a long time, sometimes they would fall asleep sometimes not but at least they got a bit of downtime to recharge. On days they didn't nap bedtime would be brought forward to 6ish.

No nap since 2.5y.
6:30am wake and out of bed (sleep clock). If he wakes before this he has to go back to bed
7:30 breakfast
8:30 go to nursery or do activities
10am snack
12:30 lunch
3pm snack
5:30/6 dinner
6:30 start saying bath soon etc
6:45 bath using ten minute timer, teeth
7 upstairs - PJs on, two stories and into bed
7:15 lights out and we sit at his doorway until he falls asleep. Any shenanigans/playing up we shut the door for 30 seconds.

He’s usually asleep in five mins.

About twice a week if we’re out he might fall asleep in the buggy eg if we’ve had a busy morning. He’s woken after 15 minutes otherwise bedtime can be a nightmare.

Our 2.5 year old recently dropped the nap and basically we don't go for any extended trips in the car or buggy in the afternoon. If we really want to go somewhere further afield, we take public transport and keep her entertained on the journey.

It's a sacrifice we're prepared to make for an earlier bedtime and better sleep! She wakes up at 7am and is in bed by 7pm, asleep within 10 minutes usually. Any sleep in the daytime past midday, even 5 minutes will extend bedtime by an unacceptable amount for me.

Earlier dinner, or see if you can do a power nap, where you wake him up after 15 minutes.
