Getting rid of the dummy!!

So ds is almost 21 months and is obsessed with his dummy, he has great speech and has only become obsessed with having it 24/7 in the last couple of months but I really want it gone! I find him walking around with it in the park or wherever we are embarrassing as I think he looks to old and can almost feel the judgement 😂

Any experiences on how you did it, how long it took and how horrendous it was?!

DS is a similar age and I noticed him starting to get super obsessed with his so we introduced a few different things:
If he asks/needs it in the house then he has to come up and sit on someone's knee and can only get down when he gives it to us. He's realised that he's rather have fun playing.

In the buggy if he wants it we tell him 'you must be tired and need a lie down'. Then the seat lies back and the hood goes down and he soon realises that's super boring.

He's not allowed out of the buggy or the car or out the front door with it in. We've had many a stand off about this but he's pretty good now.

They're now called 'nighttime dummies'

When they're not in use we try to hide them somewhere he can't get to them or come across them.

I've recently introduced 'car toys' and make a big deal about them when strapping him in and he's too distracted to to ask for it.

Now sometimes I realise that apart from nap time he hasn't had it all day.

@edin16 thank you for your reply, those ideas are great I bet it's worked well! I might try it with my ds and see what happens!
