Potty training boy with a speech delay

So our little man is reaching two shortly and he is grabbing his front part of his nappy when he has a wee and is starting to find pulling his trousers down a lot of fun! I read that these are signs that potty training could be soon ahead. I’ve looked up advice for potty training and it seems there’s a lot of basis on communication. However our son is in a bilingual household and is experiencing the usual delay in speech as a result.

I don’t intend on starting him immediately but I have a feeling his need to start will be here sooner than his communication.

Does anyone have any advice or tips for potty training boys with a speech delay?

I am following with interest as I have a 24 month old bilingual DC with the same delay in speech that also shows signs of readiness for potty training!

My DC says many single words in both languages but hasn't started combining them yet in phrases/sentences. But also shows an interest in potty, pulling pants off etc.

We are going through the exact same thing! He says words in both languages but can’t yet string anything together. I hope the terrible twos aren’t so terrible as I have a feeling they may be worse with a speech delay Hmm

My ds was just 2 when he started waiting for the 5 minutes I made a cup of tea (left the room) to poo. He also had less than 20 words no second language just a delay, didn't speak in sentences until 3.5. We potty then and it was fine, used the oh crap method and had potty freely available ie in the room we're in to start with. Potty was important as he could get on it himself rather than have to try and let us know what he needed. And I watch like a hawk to start with so I saw any signs (usually stop what he was doing suddenly).

I've got no experience of 2 languages but maybe stick to one language to start with toileting terms? So he isn't having to learn terms in both as well as potty training. We just used the word potty, as in do you need the potty, well done you've used the potty. Rather than poo/wee/toilet/potty to keep it simple. He learnt to sign potty rather than say it first.
