Do you think it's appropriate....

DS almost 5 is Star Wars obsessed so his party is going to be themed around that.
His school friends will be coming.
I have ordered plates and cups with storm troopers on and I've just looked at them and they have like gun/blasters in their hand (which is what stormtroopers have as part of their characters) I've never thought about it before as DS is grown up for his age, understands what's real and fiction/make believe and knows that in the real world people don't walk around like storm troopers with guns 😂 But it got me thinking will the other parents be ok with that? What would you think if you went to a child's party and they had that there? Am I over thinking 😂
We also have a mascot coming dressed as a storm trooper so I'm assuming I will have the same issue there....
any views and options greatly appreciated 😊 Thanks!

It’s fine but I would warn the parents about the mascot as they can be scary.

WhatNoRaisins · 29/03/2022 14:55

I think because they are fictional rather than looking like real life soldiers or armed police that makes it different. Do you have any guests with any gun or war related trauma as far as you know?

TheUsualShitshow · 29/03/2022 15:02

I don't think anyone will be scared of plates and cups Grin

But an adult dressed up could be scary for little kids, so I'd mention that, yes.

Carole Middleton sells a very fetching Darth Vader piñata. Hasn’t done her any harm.

I was very surprised to see that Star Wars is a 12. I actively tried to get ds into it as a way of weaning him off dinosaurs at the age of about 4/5.

HellToTheNope · 29/03/2022 15:44

You're overthinking.

Comedycook · 29/03/2022 15:46

It's fine

I would definitely tell them about the dresses up bloke. One of my kids was terrified of things like that

Blossom64265 · 29/03/2022 15:48

When I was 5 I thought the storm troopers were robots. I didn’t even realize our hero’s were shooting people.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Star Wars is a very common theme for 5yo birthdays. My own dd went to several and had a great time even though, and this pains me greatly to admit but we have decided to love her anyway, she isn’t a huge Star Wars fan.

Why would you need to wean him off dinosaurs?

Lou1siana · 29/03/2022 15:59

@divebar2021 I just couldn’t take any more of the dinosaurs

Gowithme · 29/03/2022 16:01

My son would have loved that when he was 5.

Never get the issue with guns tbh. My dc played with guns. Ds is now a soldier....
Not a hit man or a gangster!!

clarepetal · 29/03/2022 16:04

Sounds great to me

That's exactly my issue with guns! I would hate any of my children to join the forces.
Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 29/03/2022 18:43

It has been the making of my ds. At 14 it was touch and go which path he would end up on.
He is an amazing young man now!

womaniswomaniswoman · 29/03/2022 21:27

That's great. A friend's son is exactly the same, such an independent young man. It just gives me the fear as a parent.

MsSquiz · 29/03/2022 21:45

My nephew had his 5th birthday (Star Wars themed) as a joint party with his twin siblings who were turning 1. He was dressed as Darth Vader, had storm troopers come along for photos as well as cardboard cut outs.

None of the kids batted an eye lid, not even the little ones who were merrily playing on the soft play/in the ball pit

DelurkingAJ · 29/03/2022 21:48

My eldest would have had hysterics at the mascot (and did aged 6 at his best mates’ Dad in a Woki costume and had to be coaxed back into the party)…DS2 wouldn’t have turned a hair. So I might mention it as had I known I would have briefed DS1 and it would have been much less bad.

The plates and cups you’re definitely overthinking!
