I have a whole list of things you can try

What does the rash look like? Is it patchy, does it cover his whole nappy area (like a little red nappy still on him), is it little craters, does it have white bits?

The kind of rash can help us narrow down the problem

What washables are you using and how are you dealing with them- ie what temp wash, how much and what detergent, soaking etc??

i'll leave you in flame's capable hands- she knows what she's on about- i have baby brain atm

Just a red n spotty willy could well be thrush - it might be worth getting it checked out by a doctor who will give you an anti-fungal cream. If it is thrush then you need to wash your nappies as hot as they will let you to kill off anything lurking until you have completed the course of cream

I wouldn't bother with the soak personally

aww thank you very much ill give that a go, really didn't want to give them up as my ds2 is in disposables and there would just be far too many nappies coming out of this house let alone cost

hi

i'm new to mumsnet but not to cloth nappies. i suggest not using any disp wipes go with cotton wool and water or reusable wipes and water. let his bits be exposed to air as much as is possible. i used to put my dd on a towel naked to air her. i never soak her nappies just put them in the wash with towels etc on a 40 wash with ecover or aquados washing liquid or power.

if you are concerned about the nappies being the cause try a 60 wash every so often.

You could put a fleece liner on top of the prefold for extra dryness.

weleda nappy cream is excellent as a barrier. also bamboo nappy liners placed over the fleece liner, may seem excessive but the bamboo/paper liners can be washed and used as dusters etc!!
