My 7.5 month old baby has covid. I tested positive. He's been unwell since Saturday night, had a high fever. Been giving Calpol. Now he has a worrying barking cough/sound while crying. Wont settle to sleep. Tried 111 for hours no one is answering. Go to a and e?

Just because you have covid it doesn't mean that the child does

2+2=7

Lying here listening to my own seal pup. DD has croup- caused by COVID last week. She’s 12 and I thought we were all done with croup after years of it but obviously not. Have had new inhalers today- poor love is really struggling. Definitely get checked out.

I hope your little one is ok and has a speedy recovery, please update us if you can. My 5 month old tested positive today, a hideous day of them being really unwell and similarly couldn't get through to 111. It's difficult to know what to do when usual support avenues are under so much pressure and you're positive (as am I) too which complicates things 🌺

Hi all, thanks again for your helpful advice. We did go to A & E. Waited 7 hours overnight. He tested positive for covid while we were there.
Baby ended up having a bad case of croup/secondary viral infection in throat. The Dr gave him a steroid and he's doing a bit better now 2 days on. The barking sound and struggle to breathe are gone.
Also FYI, hospital had a protocol with separate waiting area for us as we had covid, so no one should be discouraged from going in if your baby seems dangerously unwell (mine did).

You can most definitely go to A&E with covid -- my family has been there twice. How do you think our hospitals end up with covid patients in them?! A&E just separates covid / suspected covid patients from others. Also, a bad cough is something to be concerned about with infants - it may be nothing, but a responsible parent has a duty and absolute right to get it checked out.
