Shes so snotty! I can hear it when she breathes. I think she has a lot on her chest too.

Yesterday she couldn't sleep on her back she was so bunged up so I laid her on her front on my chest for a few hours.

I have put her in the steamy bathroom for about 20mins on a couple of occasions and it seems to help a little but it's not very practical.

I don't like the idea of putting saline up her nose to be honest but will if it's the only way...

Has anyone any experience with humidifiers? Or any tips?!

Aw bless, hope she recovers soon! Have you got a snot sucker?

It's a few years since mine were babies but I found the Calpol plug ins to be really effective. Or olbas oil on a damp muslin over the radiator.

My baby was often like this and didn’t seem able to sneeze to clear it herself. The health visitor advised I tipped a few drops Of cooled boiled water up her nose. She did an almighty sneeze, poor thing looked absolutely shocked. The stuff that came out of her nose ! Thick green lumpy stuff covered the whole of her bib and beyond. Helped enormously. Hope it helps.

I like the olbus oil on cloth on the radiator idea, although I thought she was too young for olbus oil and any kind of vapour rub... although I wouldn't dream of putting it in her, is she too young to breathe it in also?

Snot sucker sounds interesting!

@Katyy Maybe we should go down the saline up the nose thing as it sounds like the most successful!! How do you get it and get it up the nose?!

Oh boiled water rather then saline! How do you get it up there? Surely it hurts as it does with adults ?

Poor thing it's bloody awful being congested. Can you raise the head of her nose basket/crib for at night ? It does help

Careful with olbus oil- when I was pregnant and had a cough I was recommended it by pharmacist but was quickly advised against it as it was linked to heart problems for foetus. Don't know what the thinking is for young babies though- might be fine but I'd look into it just to be safe.

My baby, now 7 months, was really snotty for about 2 months after birth but now is fine. I just left her to it. Was yours quite a quick birth? Or maybe Caesarian? Sometimes mucus apparently doesn't quite clear from their system properly if baby is pushed out quickly. I just made sure baby had enough daily fresh air and vitamin D/exposure to sun.

What do health professionals / health visitors say?

Sorry just seen your post. Just a tiny bit on a spoon, baby on their back on your knee and just drop it in both nostrils. Good luck.

Strange but what provided some relief for my baby was holding upright in my arms, close into my body, and doing a very fast twist of my body from side to side!

There is snufflebabes oil in warm water that you can use from birth. We also have a cold mist humidifer. And saline spray
