Can postpartum depression make you physically ill?

My DS just turned 4 weeks the other day and I feel mentally fine (albeit a little sleep deprived as I have a 21 month old as well) but last night I have severe lower back pain suddenly come on and a few hours after that cold shakes all throughout the night and a fever of 39. I still don't feel well and paracetamol doesn't bring it down much or help with the pain.

I rang my GP only to have a nurse call me back and tell me I'm probably just burnt out and exhausted. I said I think it's a UTI or kidney infection as my wee has been cloudy but because it didn't hurt when I went for a wee it couldn't be a UTI and I couldn't be ill.

Can PPD make people physically ill like this? I haven't been over exerting myself. At least I don't think I have. I did more pregnant 🤔 just trying to think why the nurse has dismissed me as being burnt out and not poorly.

I would ring the GP again and ask for a second opinion. Take in a urine sample if you suspect a UTI, they are awful and can become very serious if left untreated.

Yes not in the way you describe. My covid symptoms last weeks were exactly like that.

That definitely sounds like a UTI to me! Call GP back and invent pain on peeing so someone sees you Grin

You can have a kidney infection without feeling pain when peeing. It definitely sounds like that's what you have to me. They can make you terribly ill. Take a urine sample to the GP ASAP. If you can't get a same day appointment go to a walk in centre x
