So my little girl she’s 6 months is being christened in may. I’ve never been to a christening myseld so don’t know much about them but I was thinking of hiring like a function room but there’s only gonna be like 30 people coming if that. Not sure if that’s gonna be to much the smallest one I found they said holds about 80 people , so still fairly big I suppose but not gonna get smaller than that . But I’m not sure resllt what to do at an after party for only 30 people , there’s not really gonna be any children just adults. I was gonna do a buffet and get a cake and decorate it but is there anything else I need like thr function room owner said bring our own dj but I didn’t think you’d have a DJ for that kind of thing .

We just had people back to the house for sandwiches, other cold buffet food and cake and wine. People don't expect a big bash after a christening.

I was gonna go that but We are in a flat and not much Space or places to sit

Is there a local pub that has a small function area or where you can just reserve part of the pub?

Does your church not have a hall you can hire?

gogohm · 24/03/2022 13:27

Church halls are cheap, we charge £12 an hour. Make a buffet yourself/family bring and share or order from the supermarket

GroggyLegs · 24/03/2022 13:28

Our church had a small hall/big room next door that we hired, does yours have anything similar?

We did some sandwiches & a cake with background music to pass the baby around & have a catch up. All home by 2pm.

I agree with PP, I wouldn't go to a christening expecting a party (although that's fine if that's what you want!)

I don’t think they do have a hall at the church we’re going x

30 is quite big for a christening.

Find out if the church has a hall, and if the congregation uses it after the service - putting on a buffet or a sandwiches/cake/tea might be possible and will be cheapest and most convenient.

Otherwise try a local pub, have a room or one end of the bar to yourselves, and you can stand everyone a first drink and get the pub to lay on some food

We had about the same number of people, plus church congregation and hired the church hall for two hours just for tea, cake and a few sandwiches so I decorated the hall with some bunting and flowers the morning of. We then had our daughters godparents over to our home for a glass of bubbly and some nibbles to end of the day!

Did consider a pub as we have one just a few doors down but we ended up getting so many offers of help from the church congregation for setting up it made it much easier to do it that way.
