6 month old rarely laughs

My six month old laughs occasionally but hardly ever, it takes so much to get her to laugh, blowing raspberries has never made her laugh, tickling her hasn’t either.
She laughs when we do peek a boo sometimes but only a handful of times, she laughed for the first time when she was about 4 and a half months old and then didn’t laugh again for about 2 weeks but not much else really gets her laughing at all, she smiles constantly always has a huge smile on her face!
She’s reached every other milestone she should have by 6 months anyway. She also doesn’t really pay attention to us she gets so distracted easily that she’s just doesn’t seem to be bothered by us, if there’s something on TV or if she’s playing with her toys she doesn’t bother looking at us when we play with her or make funny noises, she’ll smile but she won’t always look up at us but she loves a cuddle, always wants to be held and often whinges or cries when she can’t see us (like if I’ve popped to the kitchen to make her food while she’s on her playmat in the living room) She’s had her routine hearing test when she was about 4 weeks old and we were told we didn't need to go back for another 5 years because her hearing was perfect. She knows her name too but she won’t always look at us when we do call her name.
I’m worried in this sense because she’s not laughing regularly at all it’s really hard to get a laugh out of her and she also just doesn’t seem to be bothered by us much when we talk to her she’d rather play with her feet or play with what shes got in front of her.

Ours rarely laughed at that age, she does a bit more now at 1yo. Surprise, novelty, silly noises, silly dancing.

I was so worried about my little girl because she didn't laugh, and in fact rarely smiled as a baby. This was so different from my older boy, who would laugh so hard he couldn't breathe if you so much as looked at him sideways! In fact, she didn't really do ANYTHING (clap hands, point, babble etc) before 12 months.

She's 3 now, and she's absolutely hilarious! She spends all day joking and cackling, she's made friends easily at nursery, and she's comfortably caught up everything I think (her drawing and writing in particular are fantastic).

I'm sure it's true that a lot of neurodivergent kids are already beginning to display some traits maybe not by 6 months, but certainly by 12-18 months. But in my experience, a baby can fail to meet every single milestone before 18 months, and it doesn't necessarily mean anything.

I think you should keep an eye on it, but just to reassure you, DS was very grumpy and serious at the same age and getting a laugh out of him was like getting blood out of a stone! At nearly 2, he laughs all day every day now and I don’t think he is anything but neurotypical.

I'd try to get another hearing test if I were you before worrying about anything else.

@itsasunshinyday hows she now?

Mine was like that at 6 months but at 8 months started laughing more. Now I get giggles everyday!
Its been a lot of trial and error as he laughs at the most random things, but after a while of doing that it won’t work so I’m always acting a fool round him just so I can see that cute baby laugh😂❤️

Hi, I know this is an old thread but wondered if you had any updates on your little one now? My son is similar to this and I just can't stop worrying something is wrong 😕
