Long haul flight and food for 10 month old

We are flying long haul 8 hours -lay over-8 hours to visit family. 10 month old DS has consistently refused pouch food and generally eats what we eat at home eg: scrambled eggs, mash lumpy potatoes, salmon, rice and chicken etc.

I'm thinking of taking some food with us for the flight but unsure how to pack it to ensure food hygiene. I will of course freeze and take in a freezer bag although uncertain it could last.

Anybody else have any tried and tested methods for taking baby food? Or any other alternatives?

Many thanks.

I have no idea as haven’t travelled on a plane as of yet, but I don’t think you’re allowed frozen food? I think you’re allowed cool packs though, not sure about them being in certain size containers etc.

I'd honestly just take endless snacks for this one day, things that are non perishable and travel well (cheerios, goldfish crackers, etc).

Buy food after security and take it on board with you

Take food that doesn't require refrigeration and that the baby can feed themselves - we always used to pack bread rolls, fruit purees, babybel cheese, on top of the pouches. Feeding babies on planes is messy and uncomfortable, because you don't really have the space to feed them and inevitably things get dropped/knocked over. Take lots of spare clothes for the flight, for you and for them!

Individual wrapped cheese, Philadelphia sandwiches, avocado and banana ( whole, open when needed). Yogurt pouch. Berries in pot pre. Pesto pasta. Biscuits. Breadsticks

All those will be fine out of a fridge all day, in a regular little kids thermos bag.

I agree with the snack food idea. Don’t worry about doing proper meals.

Maybe give baby some of your meals on the plane or ask if there are any spares if they look suitable

At that age my DC was just eating whatever we had, so I’d just buy food when there. I wouldn’t risk taking packed food for that length of time, and where would you hear it? Pre-book a kids meal for the plane.

Buy food in the airport once through security. I find snacky food much better for travelling anyway, there’s a lot of time to fill and they will be out of routine. Also it’s not a guarantee, so don’t rely on it, but whenever I’ve flown long haul with an older lap baby they’ve always given me a second meal.

Don't worry about balance. Just keep them happy. Some form of carbs, some individually wrapped cheese, some fruit. Bin it all before you land.
Try and get an extra meal at service so they can have the bread roll etc.
Do you have time during the layover to go get a meal?

We got pouches for a long flight when DS was this age.
They made me taste one of them going through security (?).
DS refused all of them and snacked on my aeroplane meal.

Those brioche bread cake things seem a hit. Ds was given one by neighbour and demolished. Added to list to buy for our next flight.
